  1. c) Once the hunters were forced by law to stop shooting them for their feathers, and the use of DDT was prohibited (but not until there were only 800 nesting pairs left), Bald Eagles were reintroduced into the US from Canada.

  2. I'm going to have to go with "C" on this one.

It took countless organizations, legislative efforts, NGOs, federal programs, etc. to pull this nation's very symbol back from the brink of extinction.  Those first years held little-to-no promise, yet thousands of people remained dedicated and focused on making this happen -- hats off and a hearty thanks to them.

The emergence of the EPA and the Endangered Species Act should be given special notice here.  The efforts of these two pinpointed the critical issues Bald Eagles faced with thinning eggshells due to pesticides in their diets.  The sudden halt of the use of DDT and other toxic chemicals across the country was the first massive and successful step in protecting eagles and many, many other birds -- specifically almost every single waterfowl in North America.

I lived on the north end of Puget Sound in Washington State for awhile.  There is something grand, uplifting and almost magical about seeing Bald Eagles almost daily soaring through the blue-grey skies of the Pacific Northwest.

  3. C) Stephen Colbert and is access to the open mind of young college liberals...
