His father was most instrumental in getting Arnold Palmer interested in golf. He was always hitting balls from place to place where Deacon Palmer was the super. He showed a talent for the game and went to Wake Forest which was a golf powerhouse .The manner in which he played the game actually popularized the PGA tournaments. His" go for broke"style brought many to the game who otherwise would have found another pastime.
