  1. He was a Republican during the time of Abraham Lincoln, (born 1810) and one of his clients.  He was also a land investor and backed President Lincoln politically.  Gridley, Illinois was named after him.  He was one of Bloomington's first millionaires, and brought the railroad industry there.  He married Marie Anne Enos in 1836, and died in 1881.
