Who Originally Coined the Word "Troll", Anyway?

  1. I've seen the word "trolls" in R&S since first time i went there in January 2007


  2. It's probably from Something Awful or Fark.

    It's an old internet term for somebody who insincerely posts inflammatory things just to insult or bother people.

  5. the contemporary use of the term first appeared on Usenet groups in the late 1980s. It is thought to be a truncation of the phrase trolling for suckers, itself derived from the fishing technique known as trolling

  6. I used to use newsgroups back in the day. So this isn't a yahoo coined term. The term "Troll" was used on usenet newsgroups as well. As for what exact person, I don't think that will ever be explainable.!
