What should I do ?

In several conversations with my supervisor he would refer to either himself, or another person being "someone's N*GGER" He's not black and he was not using the phrase as a term of an endearment,....his is a white, rednecky type. While I, myself am not black, but I do have a diverse cross section of friends, and the company has many black employees, ironically it was originally founded in Detroit. I was very offended by this statement, and it troubles me terribly that these type of people can make their way to supervisory positions. This same supervisor also has a myspace page dedicated to his pleasure in dominanace over women, and describes how they should be his servants and pets. He actually refers to them as pets, or b*****s, which I also find offensive,...what should I do ?

  1. You should take your concerns/complaints to the Human Resources person at your place of business.  I am sure there is a policy for diversity training, etc.  There is probably not much they can do, however, about the myspace page, as he (presumably) does that on his own time.

  2. Make an anonymous e-mail address.  Send a copy of his myspace to management using your anonymous e-mail address.

  3. Just try to let it go in one ear and out the other.

I've been laid off twice in my life, and I think both times I could have avoided it if I was nicer to my boss. I'm not saying you should kiss his butt or anything like that. Just when he says something that upsets you just smile, and hold it back.
