Question:

Who Wins This Texas Holdem Hand?

I was playing Texas Holdem with my cousins and we had trouble when deciding who won this hand (this hand had only 2 players)

Player 1 had [K]-[8]

Player 2 had [K]-[3]

Community Cards: [2] [2] [4] [4] [7]

I was certain that this hand was a split pot because in texas holdem it is your best 5 cards and there was 2 pair on the flop and unless a player had a full house (2 or a 4) then it would come down to the highest kicker (card). In this situation both players had a King, which made there best 5 cards the same!!

But in stead we let player 1 win with a K and a 8 which beat the 3.

I believe it was a split pot ! please tell me who won this hand !

  1. it comes down to your second card

    k 8 beats k 3 cause of the three

but if your playing simple then your split pot

  2. Split Pot - you never use 6 cards

  3. This should have been a split pot.  Please don't listen to those who said otherwise because they obviously don't know the rules of Texas Hold'em.

You can ONLY use five cards to make your best hand.  In this case you were right, each player has 2 pair (2s and 4s) and a King kicker (totaling the best 5 cards for this hand).

Now, you said that you gave the pot to player 1 because he had the 8.  Well technically by using the 8 he reduced the value of his hand meaning player 2 should have one.

If Player 1 really wanted to use the 8, his hand would have been:

    K, 8, 7, 4, 4 (the best possible hand with the 8).

Meaning he would only have had one pair...player 2 would win with 2 pair.

You always use the 5 best cards...if they are the same for both players...just simply split the pot and move on to the next hand.

  4. SPLIT...THEY BOTH HAD THE SAME 2 PAIR WITH THE SAME KICKER......U ONLY GET 5 CARDS

  5. thats a split pot.  or if your playing stead it goes to K8

hey you dont use 6 cards o_o

  6. split pot

    2 2 4 4 k for both

  7. Split pot the best 5 cards play not 6
