  1. why do people ask questions they know the answer to. Im sure you know its ali all the way ,if both were in their prime ali would have his hands full, but would still find the answer and could change his fight to suit, thats what made him the greatest. Love him or not, hes not on my favourite list at all, but hes at the top end of my greatest list, topped only by j s chaves and rocky marciano

  2. Billy Conn was outboxing Joe Louis Jabbing and moving. Billy Conn lost his fight with Joe becasue he decied to slug  the las round and got caught. ALi was a better boxer than Billy Conn was and could move twice as fast. IF Conn could give Louis problems and Outbox him For every round except 1 ALi would have beat Joe Louis.

  3. tough tough question, i think most people would opt for ali, but i think i will pick louis, in his prime he was fast, threw bombs, and was accurate, gr8 chin too, that is y i pick louis

  4. Ali was bigger and much faster than the brown bomber, Joe Louis possessed great power and good hand speed and accuracy however he was quite slow on his feet and often relied more on his power and precision...that would have put him at a disadvantage here because Ali was not only very fast, he also had great reflexes and was very hard to hit  ( i am talking about ali in his true prime 1966) Ali's footwork was arguably the best ever in the heavyweight division and he had power in both hands Joe Louis was a very good boxer his record after all speaks for itself but let us not forget that Ali faced a much tougher competition than Joe Louis, the heavyweights in Ali's era were bigger and hit a lot harder than the heavyweights in Joe's era, Ali showed that he had the abilty to handle all type of boxers from pressure fighters to scientific boxer/punchers as well as sluggers, Ali was more versatile and thus i think he would have been more likely to win if he had faced joe louis in his prime.

  5. The "ALI vs (Fill in the Blank)" can get a bit old, as in the often asked Tyson question.  However, this one is interesting.  If ALI were a disciplined boxer he'd win this fight EASILY.   He still wins but Louis is the ONE opponent who can give ALI trouble BECAUSE of his unorthodoxed style.  Against anyone else, ALI's style gives him an advantage.

ALI: He does everything WRONG but has more natural ability than ANYONE.  He also has something NO other Hvt. has,  Perfect Balance.  This enables him to do what has gotten many others Knocked Out.  DO NOT watch Ali IF you want to LEARN the basic rules of boxing.

LOUIS: The Perfect Boxer.  He does everything right.  He has Every weapon in the book and uses them Better than Everyone.  Others have more Power or Speed but NONE blend BOTH as well as Louis.    Wanna learn to box?  Here is one you should watch.  EVERY ONE makes mistakes in the Ring.  NO ONE is the Equal of Louis in CATCHING and CAPITALIZING on those mistakes.

ALI, Louis, Holmes and Lewis are the TOP 4 on my list, In That Order.  I believe ALI and Louis has it all over the rest.  However, let's look at some facts.

Of the Top 4, I rank Louis 2nd Overall.  He accomplished More AS CHAMPION than anyone else but IN THE RING ALI has it ALL OVER Louis.  This might sound a bit crazy but, as I mentioned earlier, ALI's foot work MIGHT work in Louis' favor.  Because of his hand speed and accurate punching, Louis might be able to take advantage of the fact that ALI MUST slow down just a bit in order to punch.  MOST mobile boxers MUST Stop Completely, just for a split second, before throwing punches.

ALI and FEW others are the exception to this rule. STILL, he must slow down.  IF ALI moved ONLY when he HAD to, like Max Schmeling, and COUNTERED, like he did against George Forman, he could remain JUST IN FRONT of Louis and use his superior speed to do more damage because he's not moving so much, only enough to keep Joe out of range while landing his own punches.

ALI's dancing keeps him away from Louis, and NOBODY does it better or even comes close in footwork.  He can hit Louis almost at will but while he's dancing he's not doing as much damage as he would if he were less mobile.  ALI could win either way but More BLOCKING and PARRYING would be more effective than DANCING and JABBING.  It keeps him in range to land more solid punches.

Numbers 3 and 4 on the list actually give ALI a much tougher fight than Louis would.  Louis is 'pick em' with Lennox Lewis and edges Holmes by a hair.  This is IN THE RING.  Lennox is BIG AND HE CAN FIGHT.  He could KO Louis as easily as Louis could KO him.  Lennox is slow and could be caught by a Louis combination.  However, he's VERY POWERFUL and could also catch Louis.

IF Ali fights a disciplined fight  (Parry, Counter, Move), He inflicts more damage early, swelling Joe's eyes, and stops him in 10.  Because he would likely use his usual style (Dance, Jab, Flurry.........punch later), he actually makes his job a bit harder.  ALI wins the majority of the early rounds but it takes him longer to get Louis under control.

Jersey Joe Walcott had the right idea before he got caught.  He doesn't have anywhere near ALI's footwork.  ALI is in Walcott's league in strength and just behind him in power, still having enough to make Louis pause.  Ali has the ABILITY to fight a controlled fight and win easily.  However, it's not in his nature to "FOLLOW RULES".   Billy Conn gave Louis fits too, as most know.  ALI is WORLDS ahead of Conn.  However, I also think that Joe, knowing how the puplic rallied behind Underdog Conn, gave Billy TOO Much respect.

As I said, ALI is NOT one for following basic rules.  It's the Breaking of these rules that keeps ALI ahead of Louis.  It's also the Breaking of these rules that enables Louis to remain in the fight longer than he should.

Ali by TKO in 14 or decision by wide margin.
