  1. I believe in global warming.

Global warming  is a worldwide rise in temperature due to an increase in the greenhouse effect.

Global warming is caused by air pollution.

  2. The earth's orbit around the sun is not a perfect circle. Sometimes we are closer to the sun, other times we are further away. During the 70's and 80's, all the news broadcasts were talking about was 'Global Freezing'. It is a good idea to cut down on pollution..but global warming??..NO.

  3. I do not believe in global warming.

  4. it exists, but it is not human-caused. the sun is going through a hotter point in it's 1,500 year cycle.

  5. i really believed global warming! y? because i feel it today! right now! I am here in philippines so hot! like a heal!

  6. **I agree with you a 100%! What is unbelievable, is how many people whole heartedly believe the politician's c**p.  The government has so much to gain, by getting everyone to believe their story.... New fees for clean air, taxation, products to buy for cleaner machines, transportation, and vehicle restrictions etc... Money making opportunity of a lifetime!  This is what is supposed to occur with our planet, will occur, and has occurred, for millions of years. Nobody or anything can change it, or will change it, or make a difference one way or another....**

  7. well maybe not everything that people say it is too be but the atmosphere is burning up and depleting.

  8. What do you mean global warming is a scam? It is scientifically proven to be true! Global warming is NOT just about warming the earth, it is the complete depletion of the ozone layer caused by greenhouse gases and CFCs.

And it's already happening! Look, there is already a hole in the ozone layer,(in Antartica) so do you think it is a scam?

It's not based on faith to Al Gore, it's based on science.

ALL scientific organizations has an official statement that this is real, and mostly caused by us.

  9. It hasn't gotten warmer than it was in 1998 so it's hard to argue that we're still warming. No question the CO2 we release adds to the greenhouse effect and blocks some bands of infrared radiation from escaping into space. It stays here and causes warming. Yet CO2 has continued to go up and the temp hasn't, just as in mid-century it went up while temps went down, leading to some fear of a new ice age.

A lot of people are cashing in, Al Gore among them, he has a huge "carbon footprint" but rationalizes it away by "buying" carbon credits from his own company. Yes, he sells carbon credits, making money from they hysteria he has caused. Rather than just implementing an honest carbon tax to make CO2 emissions more costly, they want to have a cap and trade system of carbon credits so they can continue to cash in.

This is hardly proof but the 'ice road truckers' from tv were on with Jay Leno and they stated that in their 25 years of experience driving over frozen lakes, there has been no warming. Nearly all the warming comes from urban monitoring stations, there has been no warming of the troposphere for 20 years according to satellite data, rural stations also show little to no warming. Only those in areas that were once suburban or rural but are now surrounded by pavement and buildings.

Glacier melt is no faster now than it was before, we regained nearly all of the Arctic ice we'd lost in the past century in a single year, last year. Sea levels have not risen the way the IPCC predicted which shows how flawed their models are. More CO2 should mean more warming, not a flat-line or cooling, yet it isn't warmer. During some interglacial periods there is almost no ice anywhere but in Antarctica, today we still have plenty of ice and yet we're supposed to panic.

In a way, the worst scenario would be no warming because all the scientists and groups and leaders who are now yelling about our impending doom will be discredited and how do we recover from that? We almost expect politicians to lie to us, we're certainly not surprised by it. But if we lose faith in science and scientists because they've let it become so politicized, that may be much worse than another degree or so of warming.

  10. I agree that the earth goes through cycles. And yes, the "global warming" thing may be a marketing scheme, but look at it like this.

The earth, throughout history, has gone through cycles of warm comfortable climates, and cold very unpleasant climates. What is the trigger to the change? Is it the greenhouse gas that is constantly being released into the atmosphere? I personally don't have a solid understanding of it, and I am sure no one does, at this point.

What I do know, is that the glaciers are melting, it has been proven... The glaciers melting releases loads of freshwater into the oceans.  It has also been proven that the buildup of freshwater intot he ocean can have pretty drastic effects, not only on the living creatures (think small, like phytoplankton) but also on the currents. When the freshwater mixes into the ocean, the water becomes less dense. This density change alters the way that the currents work and slows down the overturn of water at the poles. If the current slows, then heat will not pass as quickly up the coast of North America, and down into the northwest of England. This slowdown could lead to the breakdown of quite a few ecosystems.

Back to the phytoplankton for a second. Anyone who has kept a saltwater aquarium knows that if the salinity of the water changes too rapidly, or enough over a period of time, the living creatures begin to suffer. Who goes first? The lil guys. The tiny little plankton. They die and guess what happens. All other ocean life follows suite.  Oh yeah, where does the majority of our oxygen come from? Plankton. They release more O2 into the atmosphere than all the rainforests and land plants combined. (According to a recent Discovery channel docu) Guess where that leads us? In trouble.

I know we, as a species, are pretty clever, but surviving might provide too tricky at that point.

Personally, if this scenario does come true, and I did nothing about it when I had the chance, I would feel pretty bad. But if it never comes about, I still made the world a little healthier to live in by doing my part.

  11. i believe...

  12. It's not a case of if you believe in it or not, temperatures are rising and ice sheets retreating. Those two things are hard facts.

  13. Unfortunately it is believed by many good people who WANT to believe what Gore has told them. Gore is a very good speaker and easily gets people to believe him. I saw his movie and, if I had not done my own research, may have believed him. But I am a scientist and a mathematician. As such I am keenly aware that there are always 2 sides to an argument.

Anyone who has not looked sincerely and with an open mind to BOTH sides of the argument cannot claim they have an informed opinion. In this country, anyone can have an opinion regardless of the the truth of it. But the only opinions you should pay attention to are the informed opinions.

I hope that everyone can get an INFORMED opinion.

Those who would mislead you are hoping to keep people from having an informed opinion. That is one way you can tell who is trying to mislead you. Those who say "look at both sides" are being honest. They are saying you are capable of making decisions for yourself. They are treating you as an adult.

Those who say there is only one side ("the science is settled" or "there is an overwhelming consensus") are trying to stop you from having an informed opinion. They are NOT TREATING YOU AS AN ADULT CAPABLE OF MAKING YOUR OWN DECISIONS.

Now which side do you think is more likely to be telling the truth??

  14. I often wonder whether Mr. Gore and his friends believe in it themselves.  I somehow doubt that they do.

  15. i believe in it because i can tell certain plants that i have are having a harder time to survive then others & its not the way i grow them or anything. ive done the same technique for the pass couple of years. & i live in california its usually hot like super hot in LA but this summer its actually cold i havent even used me A/C at all this summer. even if there is no global warming we should take care of our planet

  16. What I love is people saying there isn't a natural warming cycle corresponding to what's happening today. Of course the scientists and politicians want you to believe that, since it doesn't play into any of their agendas.

The scientists agenda is to get funding and they'll get more funding if they claim it's our fault than they would if they claim it's natural.

The politicians want to blame us so they can create new taxes due to it.

  17. I think that global warming is real.  So does every major scientific organization (NAS, AAAS, NASA...).  And they know that the earth goes through cycles, they've taken that and other research into consideration and have concluded that this climate change is human caused.

  18. Do you mean other than the scientists of the IPCC or the leaders of the  181 countries that have signed up to Kyoto? Or George Bush, virtually the only one not to commit his country to Kyoto who said:

'First, we know the surface temperature of the earth is warming. It has risen by .6 degrees Celsius over the past 100 years. There was a warming trend from the 1890s to the 1940s. Cooling from the 1940s to the 1970s. And then sharply rising temperatures from the 1970s to today.'

  19. Anytime you release chemicals into the envoirment that are not natural something is going to happen. To the exact extent of the problem that is still being debated. I know that in certein areas you have higher cancer rates than other areas. In the future I'm sure they will find pollutants caused this. In the area I grew up, the majority of private water wells are contaminated. So are we effecting the envoirment yes.

Most conservatives do not believe in global warming, this it because large corporations do not want to admit they are polluting or have polluted.

  20. Sure-anyone with an education. Which youu obvously lack.

  21. the problem is real and yes planes are a big  problem.

  22. i dont. because of the ice age, the ice melted because the planet heated up but we didnt make carbon dioxide back then did we? no...

i think that this is something the earth does naturally and we have nothing to do with it

  23. So sweet.  You are adorable.

    Global warming is real.

    Now go take your nap.

    .

  24. Al Gore is a hypocrite and an idiot who has little if any idea what he is talking about. In fact it's embarrassing that he's become the spokesman for this as he does more to harm the credibility of climate change (global warming is a misnomer). It's even worse that some people seem to believe he invented the concept.

As for believing it, yes I do because; looking at the Devonian period it is estimated that there was a CO2 concentration of 2200ppm and a temperature 6 degrees (C) above modern day. At the end of this period, there appears to have been a massive cooling caused by the arrival of land plants and the drawdown of carbon dioxide that resulted, suggesting that carbon dioxide does regulate climate. Now, most of that reduction in carbon was stored in carboniferous forest which is the origin for a large proportion of what we're burning now. So surely the release of this stored carbon (remember, it's loss caused a massive global cooling) would shift the climate towards what it had been. I realise this is circumstantial but I've also seen the recent temperature graphs (not the ones in an inconvenient truth, which are utter bullshit and not the ones which artificially eliminate error bars and amplify the effect of the medieval warm period). Also, personal experience, I used to see snow every year in the winter where I live and now barely see any ever.

So that deals with the effects, now the causes. I am fully aware that the earth's climate goes through cycles of glacial and interglacial however, as you can see from the graphs the change is not the problem, it's the RATE of the change which is unprecedented.

Now to deal with some 2 specific misconceptions posted in response to your question. The first is the popular "global freezing consensus" to which there was no consensus, it was also based upon the release of large amounts of aerosol into the atmosphere, a practise that was stopped. The second is the "it hasn't got any warmer since 1998" comment. 1998 was a strong El nino year, a phenomenon which increases temperature but has nothing to do with the concept of climate change.

Finally, the whole profit issue. If you can't see that there is a profit motivation on both sides then you are blind, the question is who is the richer political lobby and stands to gain most from being right. On one side you have environmentalists and potential carbon credit companies, on the other you have the entirety of the coal, oil and natural gas industries, the automotive industry and most manufacturing companies. Who has more sway over the governments? Who stands to gain the most profit from being right? The funding argument for scientists is also c**p as oil companies can easily afford to fund research and no doubt would reward handsomely any scientist who thoroughly debunked climate change. There are more responses to climate change myths in one of the links I've posted below.

I'm not sure why I've posted this as it's pretty clear what the dominant opinion is in the section and also what your (no doubt unchangeable) opinion is.

  25. Yes there is global warming AND global cooling.

The question is man the cause and how much we should spend and sacrifice our quality of life try to do something about it., if we could

There are no experimental data to support the hypothesis that increases in human hydrocarbon use or in atmospheric carbon dioxide and other greenhouse gases are causing or can be expected to cause unfavorable changes in global temperatures, weather, or landscape. There is no reason to limit human production of CO2, CH4, and other minor greenhouse gases as has been proposed (82,83,97,123).

We also need not worry about environmental calamities even if the current natural warming trend continues. The Earth has been much warmer during the past 3,000 years without catastrophic effects. Warmer weather extends growing seasons and generally improves the habitability of colder regions.

As coal, oil, and natural gas are used to feed and lift from poverty vast numbers of people across the globe, more CO2 will be released into the atmosphere. This will help to maintain and improve the health, longevity, prosperity, and productivity of all people.

The United States and other countries need to produce more energy, not less. The most practical, economical, and environmentally sound methods available are hydrocarbon and nuclear technologies.

Human use of coal, oil, and natural gas has not harmfully warmed the Earth, and the extrapolation of current trends shows that it will not do so in the foreseeable future. The CO2 produced does, however, accelerate the growth rates of plants and also permits plants to grow in drier regions. Animal life, which depends upon plants, also flourishes, and the diversity of plant and animal life is increased.

Human activities are producing part of the rise in CO2 in the atmosphere. Mankind is moving the carbon in coal, oil, and natural gas from below ground to the atmosphere, where it is available for conversion into living things. We are living in an increasingly lush environment of plants and animals as a result of this CO2 increase. Our children will therefore enjoy an Earth with far more plant and animal life than that with which we now are blessed.

  26. I  don't believe in global warming.  What's happening on our globe now is a similar to ages human.. So everything will really change and perhaps this is what we are experiencing now... cycle on it.

  27. Everyone who accepts reality.

Doesn't everyone get that there isn't a natural warming cycle corresponding to the current warming trend?

  28. Keep your eye on "methane hydrates".  It's not a question of faith or belief.

You look at the facts and make conclusions.

The vast majority of scientists (who have better things to do than believe in their facts and statistics) have based their opinion on those facts that the earth is in a sharp warming trend due to human-caused emissions that contain carbon dioxide.

Cycles which we are experiencing now come in tens of thousands of year's duration, not in 30, or 20, or 10.

Profit is made by delaying change which would limit carbon emissions - much less than profits to be gained with "green" industries.

Keep your eye on methane hydrates.  Stick that noun phrase in your vocabulary, idiot....
