Question:

Who agrees: If you are a true baseball fan, you only have one team?

I constantly see people on here talking about how they are HUGE fans of a few different teams. Call me old school, but that makes you a phony in my book. I've got ONE team. I might cheer for another team once the playoffs start, if my team is done, but that is a short-lived thing, and I've got no significant emotional investment.

If you disagree with me, I'm curious: Are you old enough to remember when nobody named Bush or Clinton was running for President?

  1. I disagree.

I have two teams that I root for and I have done so for 40+ years.  THAT'S old school.

Red Sox and Mets, if you must know.  I am more vocal about the sox because I live in NYC and it is more fun.  As a Mets fan, I'm one in millions.  A red Sox fan in the bronx... We could all get together and take a bus up to Fenway.  But not one of those short buses...

  2. I think so too. I've stuck with Texas 13 years *im 17*. Bandwagoners make me sick.

  3. you can have one favorite team per league,

    EX:

I am an Indians fan and a Cubs fan.

But when they play one another, I root for the Indians!

  4. not to say you can only have one, but its very rare that you have more than one or more than one per league,,,

    Mine is Chicago Cubs 110%

  5. I am a huge braves fan and during the regular season i will only cheer for the Braves or the teams who play their division. If they are out of the post season like this year i cheer for the underdog just cause i like to watch teams with the odds against them.(Twins maybe)

  6. I completely Agree with you. I think it goes like this.

True Fans: Have one truly favorite team and cheer for them no matter  what.

bandwagon Fans: Have multiple favorite teams and bounce around between them. Like whoever is doing the best.

Regular Fans: May have a few favorite teams but not one TRUE favorite team above all.

  7. Hmmm I agree to a point.. I think you should have love and passion for ONE team yes.. but I also think that you can respect other teams if they play hard/well. i mean what's wrong with liking other teams/players? I don't hate or think other teams suck..

Yes i love the angels (angels ALL the way for me 120%) but i also have respect for other teams and like seeing them play. Of course if they are against each other then i root for the angels but let's say angels don't go very far in the playoffs then i'll still watch the postseason.. watch over a team becuz rooting for someone always makes baseball fun. I am a true baseball fan too :)

As long as you don't jump from bandwagon to bandwagon its fine with me.

  8. well look i think if its tough to decide than yea but i mean you have to like more than one team.  cause if you say ok look this is the best the rest suck.  well thats not true thats what you see.  all my friends like one team better than the rest.  i like the royals the reds the angels and the d-backs

  9. True baseball fans love the game of baseball.  They like to watch baseball played the right way and there are a bunch of teams that play it that way.

What if someone from New York had one parent who was a fan of the Yankees and one who was a fan of the Mets? I think they could support both teams and still be a true fan of baseball..

  10. I'm not sure what your opinion is on my situation.

The Yankees are my team. They're my number one. I live and die with them. No ifs, ands, or buts about it.

However, I live near Pittsburgh so, of course, I've got a soft-spot for Pittsburgh sports. The Steelers and then... the Pirates. Oh, the Bad News Pirates.

I have a soft-spot for the Pirates. I don't think of them as my team. The Pirates always come second for me, behind the Yankees, in every circumstance.

I do go to Pirates games. The tickets are cheap and I am a fan of the game of baseball itself. I enjoy being in the atmosphere and talking to other fans. I pay attention to what's happening with them.

I'm not sure I'm necessarily a fan, but I do have a soft-spot for them. What does that make me, in your opinion?

EDIT: November 30th, Steelers at Pats. Start saying your prayers.

  11. DISAGREE

I am a HUGE fan of the Dbacks and the Twins and i think it is totally fine unless you only like the one thats doing better

I LOVE both teamsand i think its totally fine

i only find this a problem if u have 2 teams in the same league

  12. 1.) What in the flying flip is a "true" fan? Sounds like snobbism to me.

2.) If a person has two favorite teams, he or she has two favorite teams. What's wrong with that?

3.) Why all the rule-making? What, are you a baseball priest, or what?

4.) Sonny, I'm old enough to remember a LOT of people running for office. Let's see. . .are you old enough to remember when there was no Super Bowl?

  13. i Disagree 100%

  14. Disagree.

I'll take the Brewers EASILY above any other team.  No one even comes close, but I have to have a team to root for in the AL too.

  15. I root for the yankees and only the Yankees

  16. Ive been A Rays and Devil Rays fan since they started and I go to the Trop last year 10000 die hard fans wanting to see the Devil Rays win. This year I go to the Trop and see 30000 fans.Over 20000 of them are probably Bandwagoneers. I just want to go up to those 20000 something people and ask "where were you last year when they weren't so good"?I  just can't stand them. And I havent been alive for a non Bush-Clinton election, I'm eleven.

  17. Only one team, Kansas City Royals. That also doesn't mean I cannot go to see other teams play in other ballparks. I love baseball period.

I have been to 14 big league ballparks and the Royals were not one of the teams in each of those games. I just wanted to make that point clear.

  18. Well, I think that TRUE team fans have one favorite team. For example, if you are a huge fan of the astros, you're only gonna root for the astros. Bottom line. But there are some true fans of BASEBALL, who just love watching the sport, regardless of the teams that are playing. So I agree, and disagree with you. I see where you're coming from, but I can also see how someone could like more than just one team.

  19. I 100% agree
