this top 35 makes race,, and go or go home c**p sucks,, if you run the 20th fastest time in qualifying, that should be your spot,,

way they had it before, was fine, race in on spot, time or take a provisional, spot,, you dont ,you dont race,, whats so hard about that,,

and h**l if the points leader doesnt make the show,, oh well,, makes the points tighter,, unfair advantage for top 15,,,

sponsorship greed caused this change in my opinion

  1. Get rid of single car qualifying. Divide all cars into 2 qualifying heats , 50 laps each. take the top 10 from each heat, and have a 25 lap last chance qualifier where the the top two advance to the main with the top 10 of the previous 2 heats. have a 100 lap main event. Shorter races make for more exciting racing. everyone wants to make it to the front and in a hurry!! watch the all star races (before the COT). This might also eliminate friday track time, all day saturday practice, making it easier on teams and drivers by only having to spend two days at the track.

  2. srjrfan said it best - fastest 42 and a provisional.  I'm tired of seeing the little guys who qual faster than somebody in, say, the top ten having to pack up and go home.

If they did it this way, I think it would put a lot more pressure on the guys back at the shop to make sure the car was good-to-go the moment it rolled off the hauler, instead of spending the whole race dorking around with the setup.

  3. just don't let kyle petty and michael waltrip drive and i think we will be ok.

  4. I agree, it should be done away with.  The fastest 42 and a champions provisional should race period.

Although to #18 fans point, sponsorship greed had some to do with this, but the real reason it was put in place is because in 2002 there were not enough cars to really fill the field.  Because of that, they had field fillers, they would go out run a few laps, park their car and take the same car to the race the following weekend, while the whole time they are laughing to the bank.  NA$CAR doesn't have that issue anymore, and they need to go back to the fastest 43.  If Jeff, Jr, Kyle, Jimmie, Tony or whoever misses a race because their car wasn't fast enough, then tough cookies, they need to re-group and try again the following week.

While the rule does protect big sponsors, it's putting the small guy out of business and Legendary owners are forced to take on partners.

  5. I disagree.  I have been following this stuff for a long time and you're not seeing the big picture. I'm tired of answering this question and giving reasons.  Pay stricter attention and you'll get it someday.

  6. personally i think that each race should have separate qualifying, and that is where you start, regarless of where you are in points.  yes, sometimes the big names will be in the back or not even make the show, but i think it is the most unbias way to do it.

  7. I agree 100%!

  8. again, i disagree. there are good reasons for the top 35 - good for the sport as a whole that is. although i don't believe the number should be so high, i do believe it should be there. i'd be happy to see that number dropped to 30 or even to 25. heck, make it the top 21 (essentially split the field in half - 21 locked in, 21 race in, plus a spot for a "provisional") and i'd be happy.

"sponsorship greed" didn't cause this - good business sense did. sponsors want to know that if they sink $25 million into a team they are going to get something in return. look at how many problems teams are finding and keeping sponsors now - you think it would make it any easier for nascar teams as a whole to find sponsorship knowing they might not get any exposure at all some races...

  9. I agree but I also know NASCAR will not change the rule  NASCAR only cares about money  not the fan and not the show-It would not allow a race without the big names since if they did not race  some fans will stay home and they lose money on concessions, parking  and so forth

  10. Amen! Amen! dump the top 35 owners points the fastest 43 race... But NO, Na$car has to protect the big teams and sponsors.. Racing is about the fastest, no matter who you are.. Yep, nothing like the good ole days of Nascar.

    Go Dale Jr & Hms

  11. Yes! They really should get the top 35 rule out...it has run its course and then some...now they have about 55 full time teams and their are already 35 guys in the show, starting a race is a privilege not a right or a guarantee...Kurt Busch missed a race in 2001 and he did not make the show...really did not hurt him any...So I believe all the cars should be go-or-go home, if you fail to quailify or aren't a past champion or don't have a provisional you should not be in the show.

  12. Quailifing today blows.

NASCAR should drop this top 35 bull c**p and get rid of the provisionals.

The fastest 43 cars race.If Junior,Tony,Jeff,Jimmie,Matt,Kyle,Kasey or who ever has a bad day and does not quailify then they go home regroup and come back the next week.

  13. Agree totally!!

Fastest 43 race.  That would put a stop to the same 10 drivers winning all the time.  I wanna see my driver beat the

fastest... not the richest!! Then you can get a better idea of just how good your driver REALLY is!!

  14. I don't think the fastest 43 should race, but...

    1. Owner's points need to go. If your driver doesn't make it, too bad. Top 25 in driver's points should be locked in.

    2. Anyone outside the top 25 in driver's points should get in for how they RACE, not how fast a single lap is. A 100 mile qualifying race for everyone outside the top 25 should be held.

    3. Everyone inside the top 25 should qualify as they traditionally do.

  15. Totally agree!....Nascar is into money and power and rules , rules, rules, that no one can see..I believe some "rules" made up as they go..why not let the public and Fans see the rule book for once!
