I started becoming a Vegan last week when I saw online the pictures of chickens being tossed into one of those egg producer machines.I was so grossed out that I stopped eating dairy products and meat.If you eat a hamburger, you are killing a cow.One day cows and pigs and chickens that are used for meat will be extinct. And people who force milk out of cows and eggs out of chickens for their own selfish purposes are disgusting.I'm not saying that people who are not Vegans are gross but need to think about what it would feel like to be used for food.Who agrees with me that I'm doing the right thing??

  1. I agree with you. I also went vegan because of the animal suffering in the egg and dairy industries.

Considering how the vast majority of farm animals are currently treated, these animals would have been far better off never having been born. I'm not concerned about the extinction of farmed animals; I take issue with the way they're routinely confined, abused, and slaughtered.

  2. Given that there are about 5.7 billion people who are not vegan by choice, I don't think too many people agree with you. Of course this being the Vegetarian & Vegan section, you may feel at home.

  3. I think each person should do what they think is right for them.

Veganism happens to be right for me. For someone else, it might not be the thing to do. Of course, because of all the environmental ramifications, it would do the Earth good if millions more ascribed to a vegan diet, but I'm not one to judge. It's their business like being vegan is mine.

But I see what you're saying - it would be nice if people decided what was good for them and it also happened to be a decision that will also benefit the greater good.

  4. You are doing the right thing as long as you can treat other people with respect no matter what they eat and if you choose to talk about your choice ONLY if someone is actually curious.

Modern production of animal products is what's disgusting and this is a result of losing local suppliers that are part of the community. We can thank the obsession with the lowest prices and large corporations for that.

  5. Who's to say it is, Who's to say it isn't. It just depends on the person's reason or conviction.  Everyone becoming vegetarian won't make this world a better place, just more crowded with cows and chickens..

And no,these animals will not become extinct, they are specifically bred in large numbers for this purpose.

  6. First, I am vegan, and have been for years.  I've been a vegetarian most of my life.  So I understand where you're coming from- you're new to this and looking for validation.  It's understandable.

However, posting a question like this on an open forum serves no purpose except to offend omnivores and attract trolls to the board.

Statements like "And people who force milk out of cows and eggs out of chickens for their own selfish purposes are disgusting" are not only offensive, they are untrue.  Many people who work in such situations are working at the only jobs they could get, so they can send money to their families, while hoping not to get deported.

Remember, they didn't set up the system.

Eat what you want to, (and being vegan is great) but no one likes being preached at.

  7. If God didn't want us to eat animals, he wouldn't have made them out of meat.  :)

  8. while i think its cruel to kill animals to eat them, and i dont eat meat out of stomach problems...

consider this; other animals in the wild have to kill their prey to survive

or else all the leopards and cheetahs, and owls, and bears and wolves and other gorgeous animals would be dead

i was a veggie for a long time too, but when i decided to go back to eating meat, my stomach wasn't happy about it, so now the only meat i really eat is sushi lol

but yeah, i think they should think of more humane ways to get food from the animals

  9. i agree.  we should all AT LEAST TRY.  we should make sure we are educated and have the correct facts.  that being said: to "RICK M." & every one else:  Teeth of carnivora - incisors are underdeveloped:  molars are long, sharp, and pointed.  teeth of Anthropoid :  Incissors are well developed.  Molars for crushing & grinding.  Eyes of Carnivora:  on sides of head - tounge - Rasping - Hands of Carnivora:  claws for tearing flesh & killing, skin: does not sweat-no pores-excretes moisture thrubladder, controls body heat by panting.  Anthropoid:Eyes- face forward - tounge - smooth:  hands - fingers to pick & pluck.  Skin:  Has pores - sweat thru & lose excess moisture & controls body heat.  there are a few more i could mention but i think you all get the idea.   do not know where Rick M got his info - maybe meat eater digest- hahah just kidding.  AND thnak you for doing the "GREEN/ right thing  :)  p.s. :  please seek the truth when getting your info. - had oppertunity to live w/ and work w/ author of book mentioned below ( in the 70's).  i know my sources personally.

  10. i agree 100%

how would you feel if someone ate you? took your babies?  or your babies food? plus meat and dairy products arent good for you anyway, and you can get everything you need from fruit and vegetables and nuts and all that yummy stuff=]

and clinton-about god making animals, adam and eve didnt eat animals, nobody did until after the flood when god said that we could since noah saved them all.

so if you believe in that, you know that people obviously survived without meat.

  11. *puts on flame resistant suit*

Yep, I agree with you 100%, and I have no respect for anyone who works in the meat or dairy industry. How someone can make money off of torture and slaughter and not have it weigh on their conscience is beyond me.

  12. if everyone turned to the vegan side, we would be over run by animals

    go meat

    but whatever works for you

  13. i believe that its the right thing for some people.

  14. Is this a forum for your conscience and praise or a place to learn and be tolerant of other's choices. You cannot lump all people of any group together......disgusting is someone you would use to describe a pedophile or wife beater, not a meat eater.

  15. i do i luv vegetables

  16. It may be the right thing for you but not me.  You are calling many honest hard working people disgusting.  That is an uncalled for misstatement.

  17. I disagree. If God intended for us to be vegans, He would have made us like rabbits or guinea pigs. The human body is designed to be omnivorous (that means eating both plants and animals). We have some teeth meant to chew vegetables, and some teeth for chewing meat.  We have a digestive system that can process meat, and an appendix that doesn't work.

It may seem gross or cruel to eat animals, but remember that it's part of nature. If you personally decide that you don't want to eat meat and/or dairy, then you must get your protein and calcium from other sources, such as soy, nuts, and leafy green vegetables. You can't survive on simply salad, apples, and oranges. If you aren't willing to eat soy and other meat subsititutes, you would be better off eating meat and dairy.

If you think that animals raised for meat are being treated unfairly, then only eat organic cows and free-range chickens.

Oh, and cows, pigs, chickens, and other animals raised for meat won't be extinct because the farmers are constantly breeding them and making sure that they don't slaughter them until they have reproduced.

  18. me!

    1. it's less cruel to animals

    2. it's a more sustainable land use-vegans cut their carbon footprint by just cutting out dairy/meat/animal derived produce!

    3. is eating eggs and milk reallllly natural? I can't imagine suckling from a cows udder or eating chicken baby food.

    4. I'm sure animals don't appreciate any of it!

    5. It's far more healthy

  19. Farm animals will not go extinct because people eat them. In fact, they would have gone extinct had humans not domesticated and overseen the breeding of these animals.

Do you also realize that chickens have to lay eggs, and cows have to produce milk, and that using these products instead of wasting them is not wrong?

I think that you have a lot of research to do before you make such a serious life choice.

  20. You need to stop dissing people that aren't vegetarians or vegan. The karma dragon will get you soon, if you aren't nice to everyone.

  21. Are you a vegan because of health reasons or because your feeling sorry for a animal? If it's because your feeling sorry for the animal then you better clean out your wardrobe and get rid of most of your shoes. Humans (by nature) are omnivorous. Our eyes are designed to be predators, as are our teeth (designed for eating the flesh of animals). I won't defend the practice of slaughter houses, I feel they need reformed, but your also talking about an industry that employs millions of people and their families. I'll let you go now so you can empty your closet out.
