  1. Recycling deposits are done on a state-by-state basis in the United States. Some states already have 10+ cent deposits, while other have 5 cent or no deposits.

Keep in mind that it is a DEPOSIT -- you pay the money when you purchase your soda and then receive the money back when/if you recycle it.

My issue with the whole process has come about because of the introduction of automated bottle/can collection machines. These machines intentionally only accept products sold at the store that owns/rents them. This presents a conflict of interest. If I buy a pack of Jones' Soda cans from Target, I have no way to recycle it and receive my deposit easily, because it is not sold at supermarkets (with that UPC), and is rejected. I hope that legislation is eventually introduced to eliminate this practice.

  2. Are you kidding me?  If if you didn't get money for recycling you should still do it.  In my state you can get money for cans & metal when you take them to the recycling center, but not bottles.  We recycle everything curbside and have to pay for it!!  AND we still do it!  Imagine that!!

  3. why not. Other states are doing it

  4. I believe its a good way to get people to start recyling.

  5. I think it is a great idea. More people will recycle that way. And less polution, plus poeple can earn money from it.

  6. It's a good way to make money.  Buy bottles/cans in states that don't have deposit laws, then return them to states that do.

This way the consumer in the state that has the bottle bill is stuck picking up the bill while you make a profit!

  7. My cousin was able to collect $500 for her daughter just by bringing huge plastic jugs to the recyclers. Hey I believe it's a possibility.

  8. Anything to help keep the litter off the streets and parks is a good thing. The main beneficiaries will be kids and homeless folks. It might even encourage some theft off the back porch.

I agree to charge deposits on Litter Items. I believe the Store you buy stuff from should charge the fee to dispose of all the litter in the package. Then you can get a refund/credit.
