  1. I actually watched both tournaments and although those stats are pretty impressive you have to keep in mind that David Nalbandian at that time was flying on air. He had beaten Novak Djokovic, Rafael Nadal, AND Roger Federer in the same tournament! He was at his top form at that time (kinda like at the Shanghai Masters '05 where he defeated Federer).

It was one of the few times in the Open Era where one player defeated the three top players in the world in just two weeks consecutively. Federer and Nadal had no answers for this brilliant resurgence.

He lost to Nalbandian these two times because Nalbandian was unstoppable. Even Federer and Djokovic couldn't do anything to stop him. He even said afterwards that that period was the best that he had ever played.

David Nalbandian is a dangerous player when he's at the top of his game. When his serve and his backhand are working there's really not much to do. Also, he's a really good all-round player reaching at least the semis in all Grand Slams so that has to tell you something. But sometimes mentally, like Safin, he doesn't really go all the way because of his lack of concentration. 2008 has not been that good of a year for him... he's been losing way too early in the key tournaments.

But don't write him off...Although it is hard to imagine that he can beat Nadal on clay or Federer on grass, he certainly is able to pose a threat on hardcourts this summer.
