I could ramble off a list of names, but to answer your question, I can easily name off 10+ names of USA gymnasts, swimmers, and track and field athletes.  And a few major international competitors, too.

That's not because I'm smart, it's because I watch these sports each year (not that there's more than a US championship shown) - not just the Olympics.

On the other hand, I couldn't tell you more than 2 Olympians in Men's basketball (Kobe and LeBron) or Women's softball team (Jenny Finch and ???) because I don't follow those sports.
