Who and how were the olympics judged in ancient greece?

Did they judge differently in the olden days or is it still the same? please make it as detailed as you can, even though i cant be stuffed reading everything :) peace

  1. They taped the olympics and then the judges would watch it home and pick the winner


  2. The person who does not die during the competition will win the gold medal. There's only 1 medal to be won. everyone will fight till the last man standing.. no need judge

  3. they were judged by the Chinese, who did such a bad job they were banned for 5000 years :-)

  4. There were several elected judges called the "Ellanodikes" (their number varied) who were responsible for finding, judging, and punishing the athletes who did not respect the rules. They overviewed everything, from if the athletes were at the right age or have trained enough, and were even present at each game to prevent cheating and judge the winner. Punishments ranged from banning a city from entering the games to various monetary fines that were used to build special statues of zeus that stayed on display at a certain street.

  5. the ancient olympics weren't judged, it was winner take all. there were only 5 events all with clear winners, I'm not sure if there were judges and if there were they would only be used on rare occasions.
