  3. Homo means human.  Like the other guy said habilis means handy or use of hands made primitive tools, erectus means upright man first to use fire and caves, sapiens means knowledgeable and that be we.  Cro-Magnon was early European Homo sapien.

  4. Homo is the genus, [habilis etc.] is the species. They're two separate words, and Homo has a capital, [habilis etc.] does not.

    There are a lot of different discoveries being made, but essentially, order of the four main ones goes:

    Homo habilis (the handy-man)

    Homo erectus

    Homo neanderthalensis (aka the Neanderthal-man)

    Homo sapien sapiens (aka Cro-Magnon Man, who are physically identical to modern humans)
