  1. Humans do not need meat to survive. Our bodies resemble herbivores more than carnivores.

  2. Both , Even though people choose to be vegetarians, they have many options to help them get the Other Nutrition   that meat provides, there not lacking on certain things.

  3. It really depends on the rest of their life style, do they exercise, smoke, drink, suffer from an illness....the list goes on. Hard to say that one is better over the other. I am vegetarian, my husband isn't, we are both extremely healthy.

  4. It depends on the person. Someone can be a vegetarian, but eat junk all day and be very unhealthy. Someone can be a meat eater and eat junk all day too. But both can be healthy if they eat right and exercise.

  5. you have to eat both, cause our bodies need both of them

  6. i think meat eaters are more healthier because meat has iron in  it    and  dont think    vegetables   have iron.

  7. We do not have the canine teeth and claws to bring down animals and tear their flesh, eat them raw like other carnivores and omnivores to survive.

There are better choices and natural ways to stay pure & healthy.

  8. Me as I am a vegan 100%

  9. Some of both. Generalizing diets like that leaves too many variables. It still comes down to many factors including the EXACT foods you consume regardless of diet designation, genetic makeup, quantity and quality of exercise and environment.

  10. vegetarians b/c they don't eat the fats that meat eaters do

  11. o.k. had this discussion with my husband just last nite.  we have both been veggie for more than 25 yrs, raised family of 4 boys & 2 girls all grown now - still veggie & raising veggie grand kids all healthy.    as for whose to say who will live longer- it's anybody's guess was the conclusions we came to.  there are too many varriables - some folks eat meat smoke gritts all their life & live to be 108.  for my husband and i - so far he has out lived all the Docs who told him because of two kinds of cancer he wouldn't see his 50th bday - he is now 54 and @ work - master carpenter.  my docs told me if i had not been a veggie so long - i would have had a stroke or other heart related problems or even dead.  as it is because of genetics that i only now @ 50plus am having trouble with heart & hardening of arteries in brain - genetics - cannot avoid them.  so after all is said and done it is still a coin toss!  :)

  12. Meat eaters I'd guess as they get all the nutrition that veggies miss out on.

  13. Veggies are more escential than meat products...I think...

  14. Here is the "scientific" veiw of the American Dietetic Association and Dietitians of Canada:

It is their veiw that appropriately planned vegetarian diets are healthful, nutritionally adequate and provide health benefits in the prevention and treatment of certain diseases.

" Well-planned vegan and other types of vegetarian diets are appropriate for all stages of the life cycle, including during pregnancy, lactation, infancy, childhood and adolescence.

Vegetarian diets offer a number of nutritional benefits, including lower levels of saturated fat, cholesterol, and animal protein as well as higher levels of carbohydrates, fiber, magnesium, potassium, folate, and antioxidants such as vitamins C and E and phytochemicals.

Vegetarians have been reported to have lower body mass indices than nonvegetarians, as well as lower rates of death from ischemic heart disease; vegetarians also show lower blood cholesterol levels; lower blood pressure; and lower rates of hypertension, type 2 diabetes, and prostate and colon cancer."

As vegetarians and vegans often have lower protein intakes than omnivores (while still getting their reccomended daily intake), this can also help prevent other cancers not linked with obesity.

    Hope this helps :)

  15. It depends what the person eats  for example the vegetariancan feast on junk food all day while the meat eater feast on a lean 3oz steak. And it could go the other way around. All and all it doesn't matter if you a veg head or a meat eater you can still be unhealthy in the process.

  16. Either,,,, in the natural balance of things

  17. I honestly think vegetarians are healthier because ever since I became a veg I  have lost weight and have had more energy, since I'm a dancer energy is something I need. lol

  18. Because vegetarians supplement their diets with vitamin substitutes I would have thought there was no significant difference

  19. That's like asking, "who's healthier, blonds or brunettes?"

  20. i would say vegetarians are healthier becuase of all the horrible fatteners and hormones and stuff they put in animals and they do horriable things to factory farm animals. i am a vegetarian but it doesn't matter whether you are one or not it's what you eat and how you balance it out. if you want to be healthy go for a healthy vegetarian, if you want to be healthy but not be vegetarain eat lots of fruits and veggies and limit the amount of meat you eat and make sure it is organic and natural. it's not if your vegetarain or meat eater to decide whether you are healthy or not it's WHAT you eat and how much of it. good luck; )

  21. They can be equally as healthy (here and now) if they pay an equal amount of attention to their diets. Both can lead to future health problems in not done right.

Meat eaters usually eat MORE harmful antibiotics and growth hormones, which won't affect them right now, but who knows about the next twenty years? ...and LESS fiber and antioxidants, which keeps them clean and healthy inside.

Veggie eaters eat MORE sugars, which some bodies love, while other bodies do not do well with, but also more antioxidants and healthy phytochemicals, and LESS B12, calcium, zinc, iron, and well-balanced proteins, which can also affect them in the future, if they allow themselves to become deficient.

Obviously, you can have a healthy veggie-only diet, but not a healthy meat-only diet (unless we're talking about cats, not people)

  22. Neither.

A vegetarian diet can be very healthy; so can a vegan diet and a diet that includes meat. All three diets can also be very unhealthy.

It depends how healthily you eat, how much you eat, how much exercise you get.

And nobody, with any diet - healthy or unhealthy, veg*n or meat-eating - is safe from random diseases like cancer.

It's like picking any other two groups randomly - say, singers and chess enthusiasts - and asking which group is healthier.

  23. you can be a healthy vegetarian vegan or meat eater...i know healthy veggies and meat eaters...and i also know unhealthy veggies and meat eaters....diet alone does not determine if one is healthy

  24. Veggies don't take in as much fat in their protein. They need to replace the protein with something though (which most veggies do replace it). There are loads of options - quorn, nuts, soya, pulses, tofu ect ect and most are low fat so I'd say veggie are healthier.

  25. Some of both. Generalizing diets like that leaves too many variables. It still comes down to many factors including the EXACT foods you consume regardless of diet designation, genetic makeup, quantity and quality of exercise and environment.

  26. Vegetarians.

Meat eaters have a higher risk of getting heart disease, cancer, having a heart attack, obesity, etc

  27. Proteins: Body's protein needs can be provided by either animal or plant sources. Mixed protein diet obtained from various plant sources is better than animal protein and is recommended in diabetes, renal diseases and liver diseases. Mixed protein diet from different plant sources has been the pattern of diet in India for all vegetarians.

Carbohydrates: Carbohydrates are mainly found in plant foods; like cereals, grains, fresh and dry fruits, legumes, vegetable, greens, nuts etc. plant carbohydrates include' large amounts of starches, sugar and fibers which are important for gut functions. The body is better suited to a high carbohydrate diet than a low carbohydrate diet. In fact 55% of the food intake should be carbohydrate. All animal products do not contain carbohydrate which is essential for body.

Fat: Plant fats differ from animal fats in two different ways 1) they are cholesterol free 2) they generally contain more polyunsaturated fat and less saturated fats. Plant fats usually have higher polyunsaturated fat value than animal fats.

A diet which is low in cholesterol and which contains fat of a high PIS value is associated with a lower incident of coronary health disease.

Vitamins and Minerals: plant foods are rich in many vitamins and minerals.

Vitamin D: Vitamin D is obtained by exposure of skin to sun light and this is not a problem in India.

Calcium: The vegetarians can meet their needs for calcium from dairy products. Riboflavin (Vitamin B2) Dark green vegetables are good sources of Riboflavin as are legumes and whole grain cereal.

Iron: The problem of iron deficiency is relatively common but vitamin C significantly enhances absorption of iron hence it is advisable for vegetarians to include with each meal a food high in vitamin C which as lime, citrus fruits or juices.

Zinc: Zinc is found in large number of plant foods.

Fiber: Fiber is found only in vegetarian food like whole grain cereals, legumes, greens, fruits, vegetable etc.

Thus in vegetarian foods all requirement of nutrition for body growth and maintenance is fulfilled. One can have a complete and balanced diet provided we take enough food which is as close to nature as possible in maintaining sturdy and disease free body. It is equally helpful in curing many diseases.

    ADVANTAGES OF VEGETARIAN DIET:

More & more evidence is surfacing that directly links a prolonged non- vegetarian diet to diseases as cancers, heart diseases, diabetes, asthma just to name a few.

    1. LOGEVITY: Vegetarian can expect to live 4-10 years longer then the non-vegetarians.

" Source: Seventh day Adventists study

    2. LESS HEART DISEASE: Because of low fat, saturated fat and cholesterol content of the vegetarian diet the risk of heart disease is lowered. High blood cholesterol levels are associated with increased risk of heart disease.

    3. LESS CANCER: Up to 40% of all cancers are diet related. Cancer death rates have been associated with obesity and high fat / low fiber diet. Vitamin A & C are thought to be protective against colon cancer. Low fat diets protect against prostrate and breast cancer. Indoles, lignans, isoflavones, protease inhibitors which are present in plant foods and shown to be potent anti carcinogens.

    4. LESS BOWEL DISEASE: Diverticular disease and appendicitis occur more frequently with low fiber intake as in meat diet.

    5. LEES OBESITY & LESS INCIDENCE OF DIABETES: It is easier to plan a low fat diet for a vegetarian then for a meat eater. The fiber in plant food dilutes the energy & provides a satisfying meal without all the calories. Diabetes over the age of 40 seems to be related to obesity.

  28. The healthiest will be the meat eating vegetarian.
