I just think it'd be beneficial for all of us if we got an idea of the women the ladies on this forum admire. I post sport stars and most of the women draw blanks as to who I'm talking about. Women who model or do pornography are s***s and degenerates. Celebrities and pop icons are considered airheads and trashy. Traditional feminist leaders are considered by you as too radical or at sometimes even "ugly". Scientists and highly educated women are often written off by you guys as being almost too sexually (gender) independent and self-important from the typical social frills and femininity of being a modern woman.

Since *most of you don't seem to identify with any of these women- <Seriously speaking> who/what are some women who decently represent you guys (in enough respect that you can affiliate with their arguments) so we can have more relative arguments?

  1. While i admire more women that I could name here, based on your 'list' there's no-one I'd care to nominate to help you out.

Try working on some conversation based on what people actually say, not what they look like or who they admire.

You might be surprised how 'relative' it all gets once you start ignoring stereotypes and labels.

    Cheers :-)

    rachel carson

    marie curie

    jane goodall

i'm choosing these women because they're well known, but i admire several other lesser known female scientists just as much

  3. "Desirable" women? I'm heterosexual, so I don't "desire" women. I have many female role models.

Does a man have to be "desirable" to be admired? Wow...there goes my respect for Stephen Hawking. I look up to him immensely, but I'm afraid I'd rather not sleep with him.

I think you have some women issues that are crying out for therapy, btw.

  4. What an interesting question...really made me think. And I unfortunately came to the conclusion that there are very few women I admire and even fewer with whom I can identify. I've met some in my own life--my graduate advisor, my mother and my daughter, but otherwise, I don't think there are many great role models for women out there. There are some incredible historical figures, but in terms of contemporary women, I have very little respect for most of the public figures I see. The only one I can think of at this time is Burma's legally elected leader, An Sang Su Xi (not sure if I have the spelling right) who has been exiled for years. Honestly, this question has me wracking my brains and has really made me think about how few people there are out there who are worthy of any kind of admiration or respect.
