Costa Rica is ranked 5th in the world in terms of the 2008 Environmental Performance Index, up from the 15th place in 2006. In 2007 the government of Costa Rica stated that they want to be the first country to become carbon neutral by 2021.With a $1.9-billion-a-year tourism industry, Costa Rica stands as the most visited nation in the Central American region, with 1.9 million foreign visitors in 2007, which translates into a relatively high expenditure per tourist of $1000 per trip, and a rate of foreign tourists per capita of 0.46, one of the highest in the Caribbean Basin. Trust me. I went to Costa Rica for a week. I didn't want to go back home. To stand few feet from Poas Volcano, the great food, "canopying" (from tree to tree hanging from a wire), paddleling down a river with wild monkeys, cocodrilles and see people "U-hauling" their furniture on a canoe...  Going from the top of  freezing dormant volcano  to an exotic island in few hours OMG! Why do u think importat ppl go to C.R.?

  3. Oscar Arias Sanchez...has been president twice (is now in office for second time) and between charges he won the Nobel price of peace for abolishing the Costa Rican army.
