  1. Mansa Musa (1312-1337) was a powerful Mali leader.  Under his reign, Timbuctu,  an important cultural and intellectual center, was established.

Sundiata (1200-1255) conquered a lot of West Africa and fostered trade

Leo Africanus (1485-?)  He wrote one of the most influential books about Africa and those living on the continent.  His travel guide, which is still available, provide amazing insight into concepts of race and difference during the period and also dispels a lot of the myths about African societies.  His life story is also really interesting.

Hope that will at least help get you started!

  2. It is pretty much impossible to know/

Most of Africa didn't have writing until European Missionaries introduced it. Europeans didn't start turning up in Africa until the late 1400's, and then it was only on the coasts.

Surely there were influential leaders and such, but without any records we will never know a thing about them.

    Try to get another assignment.

  3. Hannibal

  4. The Pharaohs.

    St. Augustine

  5. Any of the ones that that sold slaves to americans
