  1. Throughout the 90's Adrian Newey (Williams, McLaren and now Red Bull) and Rory Byrne (Benetton, Ferrari) were regarded as the best designers... Byrne has since retired, although he has left a team at Ferrari who is still clearly indebted to his work and influenced by it.. and Newey is increasingly looking like a spent force compared to the aero departments of the top teams... ones of note currently include:

Loic Bigois (BMW, and now Honda)

    Aldo Costa (Ferrari)

Sam Michael and Patrick Head (Williams)

    Frank Dernie (Toyota)

  2. Not in F1 any more but Gordon Murray designed many race winning F1 Brabhams and Mclarens. Also designed the Mclaren F1 road car and SLR Mclaren Mercedes.

  3. Rob Smedley, despite the fact that he's a mancunian.

  4. At some point Adrian Newey came to be considered as the best aerodynamicist for his input to some very dominant cars from Williams as well as McLaren over the years.

However there are indeed many competent people in F1 and someone elses work can make him flavour of the day.

But there's not as much room for innovation in F1 these days as in the past.

  5. The aerodynamist of Red bull racing. According to F1 racing magazine, RBR has the top aerodymist in F1.

  6. Throughout the 90's Adrian Newey (Williams, McLaren and now Red Bull) and Rory Byrne (Benetton, Ferrari) were regarded as the best designers.

  7. adrian newey is one of the best aero engineers in F1 however ther's lots of good engineers in F1
