  1. The freemasons are an organization supposedly dating to the masons who built Solomon's temple. Current dates have them really forming this organization around the 16th century. Here's a good link http://www.co-masonry.org/. Many founders of our country were masons, so they did influence our country's formation. Some believe the symbols on the dollar bill are masonic symbols.

  2. If you research this on the net, be very careful, because a lot of bias...Some nutbars think the Masons are part of a 'New World Order' to take over the world.  (See Pat Robrtson, 'The New WOrld Order', bestseller "None Dare Call it Conspiracy', the Illuminati sci-fi series, and Umberto Eco, 'Focault's Pendulum.)

I met a Mason in the LA Freemasonry museum - the guide - who noted that many Masons live in Vatican city, for the sake of protecting the Pope.  (I'm not evaluating this point, just noting what he told me.)

  3. I am a Freemason.

Some of the more significant events influenced by Freemasonry are the US Revolution, the French Revolution and WWII. Almost all of the significant leaderhip roles in the US Revolution were held by freemasons, including Washington, Franklin, Revere, Arnold, Hancock)

It is because of freemasonry that much of the world enjoys things such as freedom of speech, individual liberty, etc.

some additional links (co-masonry.org is a form of freemasonry that allows women to join; when most people speak of freemasonry they are referring to the form under the UGLE which is a fraternity that requires a belief in a supreme being (i.e. atheists cannot join, yes there is a version that allows atheists to join).)

only 13 US Presidents have been freemasons, Ford was the last.

  4. Freemasonry is a fraternal organisation that arose from obscure origins in the late 16th to early 17th century. Freemasonry now exists in various forms all over the world, with a membership estimated at around 5 million, with around 480,000 in England, Scotland and Ireland alone, and just under two million in the United States.[1][2] The various forms all share moral and metaphysical ideals, which include, in most cases, a constitutional declaration of belief in a Supreme Being.[3]

The fraternity is administratively organised into Grand Lodges (or sometimes Orients), each of which governs its own jurisdiction, which consists of subordinate (or constituent) Lodges. Grand Lodges recognise each other through a process of landmarks and regularity. There are also appendant bodies, which are organisations related to the main branch of Freemasonry, but with their own independent administration.

Freemasonry uses the metaphors of operative stonemasons' tools and implements, against the allegorical backdrop of the building of King Solomon's Temple, to convey what has been described by both Masons and critics as "a system of morality veiled in allegory and illustrated by symbols."

  5. The Freemasons are a fraternal organization which declares belief in a "Supreme Being" and abides by a strict moral code.  Many of our "forefathers" were Masons and masonry influence was used in creating the United States.

  6. 28 USA presidents were freemasons
