  7. Personally, I respect Lou Gherig more than any other player. He respected the game and played it well. It's unfortunate he had to pass when he did.

In this era, I would say Bengie Molina. All through his life scouts said he will never make it in the majors and he proved them wrong. He is a good player and he is an overall great guy. He doesn't show up opponents and I never seen him ejected from a game.

  8. Cal Ripken Jr.

    Craig Biggio

    Ken Griffey Jr.

  9. I can't speak for everyone, but I personally have plenty of respect for...

    Joe DiMaggio

    Ken Griffey Jr.

    Jim Thome

Those are just a few who popped in my head. There are many more, of course.

    Good question :]

  10. Jason Varitek, Greg Maddux

  11. I definitely respect Lou Gehrig and Alex Rodriguez, although I'm not a Yankee fan. Someone who could come out to say a speech to compliment the fans is someone who earns respect even if his numbers don't show it. Back in around 1919-ish, I read that he used to stay in the part of the train in which players would sleep at, while the other team members goofed off. While he was at it, he would write to his mom, reassuring her, and during when he got off the train, he would take his time, patiently signing autographs for his fans, although many wanted the Babe's more than his, he was never jealous of the Babe as many players would be.

As of Alex, his numbers and crazy skills back it up. Although he's damaging his character right now, I can say one thing: Moving from place to place while struggling while growing up and still doing great things with the bat and a glove shows how dedicated he is to the game.

Oh and of course Babe. His stats and how he entertains the crowd, taking a blab or two from the opposing team and turns it into a joke of his own. He was basically a fun guy to be around I guess, and probably the most respectful too, aside from heckling the opposing team once in a while

  12. Ken Griffey Jr

    Cal Ripken Jr

    Don Mattingly

    Yaz

    Stan Musial
