Who are the Republicans, Democrats, and Libertarians? What is the Federal Government and what role does it play in society? I mean, long question short; who are the players in the game of politics and what is all the controversy over? Yes, I am extremely uneducated in this area but I am so zealous to know...

  1. Democrats say,  they aint no h**l.

Republicans say,  the h**l they ain't.

Libertarians have no clue whether there is, or not.

  2. Theoretically Democrats are more economically left wing: that is they believe in more state-provided healthcare, education, old age pensions, unemployment benefit and so forth.

Republicans tend to be more right-wing: that is, they basically believe in the individual providing for their own health care, education, etc, etc.

By the standards of many other countries, both parties are quite right-wing (conservative) economically.

The other main aspect of a poltical party is its social beliefs - with authoritarian on one side and libertarian on the other. So, for example, authoritarians believe that the police should have more power, that there should be lots of restrictions on your behaviour, eg drug and sexual prohibitions. Libertarians believe you should be able to do whatever you like.

There are libertarians and authoritarians in both the Democrat and Republican Party, and on both the right and left wing of economic politics.

In the US, the Democrats tend to be called "Liberal". This is used in the US to mean left wing and does not man the same as in the rest of the world, where the term means Libertarian-leaning.

In the US (unlike many other countries where faith is not considered a political matter) there is also the added factor of religion. Conservatives - ie Republicans - tend to let their faith influence their politics more - e.g. making abortiona nd otehr issues matters for political parties rather than an individual's conscience.

As for the role of the Federal Govt, they make all laws and things that effect everyone - eg foreign policy, some economic policy, etc.

  3. Start at the International Bankers and work your way down. The republicans, Democrats, etc. is just for show. They're not real, basically at least.

  4. Democrats are Socialists pure and simple. Many are Democratic Socialists but far too many are authoritarians who give uncritical support to even the most eggregious violation of Democratic governance.

Republicans are pretenders to Classical Liberalism. They speak like Classical Liberals but often govern like Socialists. Generally speaking they never miss an opportunity to forsake principle for political expediency. Unfortunately they get castigated for employing the policies and tactics for which Democrats are lauded.

Libertarian are Classical Liberals (I am one and proudly). They tend to favour Republican over Dems but truly despise both equally.

The Federal government is the union of all States given the power under the Constitution to perform a limited number of tasks. Specifically the Feds are empowered to do those things collectively that would be unfeasible or inefficient on a State level: national defense, interstate commerce, foreign policy, etc. Since the Roosevelt days, the Feds have expanded their role to the point of usurping the power of the States on a whole host of issues and many of the States have willingly accepted the Constitutional violation so long as they receive they share of the loot.

  5. Liberals-poor and middle class

Conservatives for the rich$ and business corps.

    Libertarians-for the common man.
