There have been a few good white heavyweight boxers over the years but it has generally been black heavyweight fighters that have dominated untill recently. How do the current crop of new white heavyweight fighters compare to the fighters of the past?.

So out of fighters such as Rocky Marciano, Tommy Morrison, Wladimir Klitschko, Vitali Klitschko, Jack Dempsey, Primo Carnea, Oleg Masktev, Bob Fitzsimmons, Gerrie Cootzee, Henry Cooper, Gene Tunney, Nikolai Valuev, James J Corbett, Ingomar Johansson, Joe Bugner, John L Sullivan, Ruslan Chageav and any others that i have missed. Who would you rate as the best white heavyweight fighter of all time and who would be in the top ten list?. Thanks.

After that, I think the rest are interchangeable. Of  today's crop of white heavies, all would take a Willard styled beatdown at the hands of Jack Dempsey.  Something missing from today's top heavy is the kind of aggressive athletic attack you saw from a Jack Dempsey.

  6. The best would be Marciano followed by John L. Sullivan just based on historical value. Then in no particular order I list these other eight: Wladimir, Dempsey, Johansson, Tunney, Fitzsimmons, Morrison, Corbett, and Schmelling(Beat Joe Louis).

  7. The blogbaba's list reads like this.

    1. Rocky Marciano

    2. Jack Dempsey

    3. Gene Tunney

    4. Bob Fitzsimmons

    5. Max Schmeling

    6. James J. Jefferies

    7. Jim Corbett

    8. John L. Sullivan

    9.  Ingamar Johansson

    10. James Braddock

Of today's fighters the Klitschko's clearly are the best, with Vitali being better than his younger brother Wladimir.

  8. 1. Jack Dempsey

    2. Rocky Marciano

    3. John L. Sullivan

    4. Ingemar Johansson

    5. Henry Cooper

    6. Max Schmeling

    7. Joe Bugnar

    8. James J Jeffries

    9. Wladimir Klitchko

    10. Vitali Klitchko

It is hard to place fighters who are still boxing but I do think the Klitchko's will have their place in history. I see Gene Tunney as a light heavyweight as apart from his wins over Dempsey he spent most of his career at light heavyweight and retired one fight after beating Dempsey a 2nd time. Same with Archie Moore and Bob Fitzsimmons other wise they may be included on the list too. I don't have Primo Carnea, Masktev, Morrison because I don't think they have done enough and the verdict is still out on Valuev and Chagaev because of their limited competition but they may garner enough success to be placed on the list some day.
