Question:

Who are the Yucatecans from Mexico?

I am writing a paper about Yucatecan immigrants from Mexico. I have limited resources such as my book but I would like to know in a personal view who the Yucatecans are??Those with knowledge need only reply. Thanks in advance :) Yes I've read wiki also, but am not interested in that.

  1. Yucatecans live on the South eastern edge of Mexico and are known for thier laid back care free way of life. Unlike most of Mexico who are mainly a Mixture of Spanish and Indian in this part of the country their is more people of African ancestry mixed with Native, and European. Since the Southeastern part of the country was a big part of the slave trade during colonial times.

    The Maranga is also a big part of the Yucatecan culture where as in the northern and central part of the country the sounds of Norteno's, Rancheros, and Cumbias dominate.  

    Yucatecan was considered independent from most of Mexico until recent history where it eventually became a part of the country.  Hope this Helps somewhat.


  2. I would say that the Yucatcans are mostly decendants of the ancient Maya.  In the Yucatan, may still live in palm roofed huts like the ancient Maya lived in.
