  1. The A.M. Best company rates insurance companies based on a number of factors, including stability, so check out their ratings. It’s hard to say which is best for your. That depends on your age, your budget, and many other factors. Why not talk to an insurance broker? A broker works with many different companies and can find the best coverage and price for you. To find one, log onto a website like http://www.lifeinsurancewiz.com and request a free quote.

  2. most insurance companies arent trustworthy.  They give you crappy deals and candy coat it.  they make insurance that is meant to collapse!!!  I have familt members that have been sorely dissapointed because of life insurance that has failed them.  Try primerica.com they are concerned about the middle class people being yanked around with that kind of stuff.  It was developed by 12 teachers who realized the people around them were losing everything because there are so many bad deals out there.  They are a subsidary of citigroup and a sister co. of citibank and citifinancial.  They can help you with everything complementary.  BTW most insurance agents are anything but ethical, because they have legal ways of getting you into deals that are bad for you in the long run, so they can get a better commision and make more money for their company.

  3. Carlii said it best:  stick with A-rated carriers.  There are too many out there to list all; some you have heard of, some you may not have.  Not the place to recommend specific companies.

If you know what you can comfotably afford in your budget, most good agents can easily find and structure life insurance that best suits you and your needs.

www.insure.com  is one of many places to start.

And yes, it can be confusing in your search.  However, as mentioned in other answers, there are basically 2 forms of life insurance:  term life and whole life.  There are a variety of kinds of each, but either you can "rent" the life insurance (term) or "buy" it (whole).  Depending on where you are in your life; married, children, mortgage, debts, budget, will help determine how much and what kind to get.

Term is the least expensive, while providing the very basic foundation of what life insurance really is:  provides tax-free, instant monies to your beneficiary.  Whole life is more costly as it is a  "committment" and not something you should purchase  only drop a few years down the road.  Each has it own benefits and costs.

A quick analogy:  most people rent an apartment before they buy their 1st house.  Rent is usually on a leased-basis and is less expensive and you can either renewal the lease or move.

A house cost more (taxes, insurance, mortgage, maintenance, etc.) and is usually bought when you feel you can afford it.  But in a nutshell, they both provide the same thing:  shelter and a place to live.

Hope that helps.  No, I am not an agent, yet have been in the insurance business for 25 years.  Any more detail or advice, email me at azulorl@yahoo.com

  4. I would recommend Primerica. Why? Number one, my wife and I own a policy through them. Number two, the rates are way competitive. Number three, the benefits you get due to the policy is amazing. Number four, Primerica is an A plus rated company.

What are the benefits? 1) Premiums are level through length of term, 2) one policy covers every member of the family, pay less in policy fees, 3) 10% policy increase for first ten years- policy will double at end of ten years with no medical check up, 4) Terminal illness rider, you can withdraw a percentage of the face amount if you are diagnosed with a terminal illness, and 5) it is GUARANTEED RENEWABLE, no medical check, at the end of the term.

  5. You can do a search for life insurances... they all have ratings, like A+++ for a REALLY great company, etc.  You can ask them what their rates are.

Anything not at least an A is sub-par.  Also, insurance agents are some of the most ethical people around, because if they mislead anyone, their license will be yanked in a heartbeat.   They WILL try to sell you more than you need, though... so have a ballpark figure in your head of how much you need to be protected for.
