Who are the biggest manufacturers of train locomotives and railcars in the world?

Also, has anyone heard of a Brazilian manufacturer ( something like Gevisa?) and what their rating is among the top manufacturers?

Locomotives - I would guess EMD who make for most countries in the world. They seem to have the maufacture of locos sewn up.

'Railcars' by which I assume you mean DMUs and EMUs - Siemens, Alsthom in Europe, Hitachi in Japan.

I've never heard of Gevisa - try googling the name.

Later (and in view of the third answer):- EMD was a division of General Motors! I think, however, it has now been sold off.

And finally why are electrics not 'rea'l trains?

locos probably GE but i think in the ara of railcars you need to take into account freight cars too.  i couldn't name a manufacturer but there are several in north america that are big

My guess is that since General Electric is both North America's #1 locomotive manufacturer in terms of sales and also produces locomotives for sale around the world, it is likely the largest producer (although, I don't have any hard numbers to back this up).  EMD still produces many locomotives but it has been outsold by GE, and in second place, since the 1980s.  

Bombardier is certainly a very large supplier of railcars although I'm unsure if it is the largest (it likely is, however).

Railcars are popular in Europe at the moment. With Siemens, Bombardier, Alstom, Stadler and CAF being some of the major manufacturers.

Multiple unit technology is pretty advanced with the 200mph Siemens Velaro (ICE3)

Most new Locomotives are Siemens, EMD or Bombardier
