  1. China after America is the biggest nation in term of producing micro chips

  2. china and india

  3. 2007 production in 1000's of 200mm wafer equivalents per month:

    Japan: 2500

    Taiwan: 2300

    Americas: 1800

    Korea:    1400

    Europe:  1200

    China:    600

    Others:   700

Edit: Great perspective Tex. Of course, many US and Japanese foundaries are overseas, so those numbers overstate the results. Another issue is the value of the chips. From the graph in the below link, Taiwan, US, S. Korea have about 45% of capacity in <0.12 micron geometry, so perhaps are making the most valuable chips, while Chinese and (surprise)  Japanese foundaries are lagging. Anyway, lots of ways to spin the stats, especially if you are too cheap to buy the full market study!

  4. china

  5. Tiawan, next is Japan, then Russia, then Germany, then the US

  6. The US, China and India.

India is a very fast growing country in terms of electronics.  They are turning out more engineers than almost any other country in the world.

My dad is an engineer for Texas Instruments, and many, many people come to work there from India, and from China.

  7. I think China,India, and Japan...could be wrong. The monster is Verichip as you likely know.

  8. ?

  9. All the microchips found in cell phones, computers, MP3 players and other technology come from materials found in the Congo, which is an African Country. Apparently they lose over $1,000,000 a year in this natural resource that is used to make microchips being stolen. It's not just the US that steals from them but other countries as well.

  10. maybe canada

  11. WHAT ARE U TALKIN ABOUT

  12. Japan

  13. china especially in south china

  14. Wings answer is OK, but it only deals with capacity. A more fair comparison would be the value of microchips produced in the first half of 2008

In this case the top four countries are the U.S., South Korea, Japan, and Taiwan.

  15. Zimbabwe

  16. india
