I hear this a lot with swimmers. Surely they have plenty of great facilities in other countries, why do athletes from elsewhere come to train in America (please don't get all patriotic on me)?

And doesn't that hinder our athletes? Training with athletes that compete with other countries, they'd certainly know American swimmers strength and weaknesses (and our swimmers would know theirs), it just seems odd.

  1. Many athletes do this especially in basketball, but we Americans do it too! During basketball off season our American athletes go overseas to train it's all basically for the money etc., but as far as the swimmers it helps them get out of a bad situation i guess

  2. Because United States is the most important country in the world, like the capital of the world.

    America ruleeeezzzzzzzzzz

  3. they go to the best facilities....which may sometimes be in the U.S.

In some other sports, the u.s athletes will go elsewhere.

I really dont think it hinders the home countries athletes since they get to train with better athletes and push them harder.

I used to speedskate, and the top U.S skater trained up here in Calgary....Not only did he improve, but the Canadian athletes did as well.  win win situation

  4. Americans offer top scholarships, which is priceless for people from developing nations, like the Kenyan swimmer who studied in America, as it not only provides an avenue for them to hone their sporting skills and talent but also gives them a world-renowned education.
