  1. People who fly in private jets...like Al Gore.

  2. heavy fuel oil is also called bunker oil No 2 oil is closely related. It is basically a very dirty and heavy diesel. The main consumers are people who have petroleum-based oil home heaters and industries where the oil is used to produce heat for various industrial applications. the burnes for industrial applications use steam to atomize the oil and assure more efficient combustion. the household burners obviously do not.

heavy fuel oil is being gradually phased out as it is environmentally-polluting and combustion products often include soot (incomplete combustion product) if the burner is not properly adjusted, and often it is not. Heavy fuel oil a petroleum distillation product.

  3. Probably the largest single use is to fuel large ships (bunkering).

Most of the other answers here apparently do not know much about various fuel oil grades.  Just to clarify:

Jet fuel is kerosene, the lightest of the middle distillates.

Home heating oil is also usually kerosene, sometimes it is a little heavier, more like diesel oil.

Diesel trucks use diesel oil (duh).

None of these are heavy fuel oils.  As a catagory they are often called middle distillates.

Some power plants use heavy fuel oil, but most do not, instead they are fired by either natural gas or coal.

Diesel electric locomotives do use a heavy diesel, usually not as heavy as bunker fuel, however.

Some industrial facilities use fuel oil in their furnaces, these are mostly in locations other than the U.S.

  4. Industries that do a lot of heating - heavy fuel oil works decently in their burners. I can't really think of any other major use for heavy fuel oil, unless there are guys who try to gasify it and make electricity (I think there are a few but not in a big size anyway).

  5. Bob Williams from Walla Walla, Washington.

  6. truckers

    Airlines

    Trains

    boaters

  7. I think the heavy (on) oil user should go to steam. Steam puts out a lot of torque. Steam power is being looked into more and more these days. We're even thinking about it's use in interplanetary travel, as water/waterice can be obtained in more places than earth, like Titan, Europa and other places, probably even in the asteroid belt. Steam can put out an enormous amount of power. I think it's worth looking into some more.

  8. The United States, but besides that companies or power stations that use oil to make electricity and heat.Airports use a lot of fuel to
