I mean we have a bunch of popular closers such as Papelbon, Moriano Rivera, K-Rod, and Billy Wagner.

One that comes to mind for me is BJ Ryan. He's great! Although you don't know much about him.

  1. Joe Nathan is really underrated. He's had an ERA under three for every full year of his career. He's extremely consistent. This year, he has a lower ERA, lower WHIP, and better K/BB ratio then K-Rod.

The same is true when you compare Joakim Soria to K-Rod.

Brad Ziegler is also really underrated. He holds the record for most scoreless innings to start a career, but most wouldn't be able to tell you that because of the lack of attention the media gives him. He currently has an ERA of .57 in 47 2/3 innings.

Those are the most underrated closers. The saves stat is highly overrated and you can see that the talent of the players I mentioned can be judged in better ways.

  2. George Sherrill, Brian Wilson (no attention in their cities)  and either one of the rockies guys.

  3. Bj Ryan is ok, saloman torres george sherill

  4. Solomon Torres is pretty good, Ryan is too inconsistent he blows alot of saves. Probably the most underrated is Brian Wilson in SF, their offense sucks, but man they got some serious pitching. Reminiscent of the early '90s Braves scary good, when they get offense they are going to be LOADED!

  5. Jose Valverde

  6. Joe Nathan and Brad Ziegler.

Ziegler broke a 101 year old record, yet doesn't seem like he gets the credit he deserves. I doubt most people have ever heard of him. He's a good closer. Nathan is a good closer too. =]

    Great Question. Here's a star =]

  7. Takashi Saito

  8. BRAD ZIEGLER

  9. Matt Capps of the Pirates 2 wins and 17 saves for a team that has only won 57 games.

  10. Bobby Jenks

  11. Brain Wilson

  12. the "closer" is overrated as is.

  13. As the fella that mentioned above me, Bobby Jenks is very underrated.  Silently have put up a 1.82 ERA and 27 saves.

Joe Nathan, known, but not as well known as K-rod and Papelbon or Rivera, but he have been lights out for so many seasons for the Twins now, sporting a 1.11 ERA.

Also how bout Joakim Soria of KC. 33 saves.  He showed signs of a great pitcher last season and defiently showing everything this season.  1.89 ERA.

  14. Bobby Jenks of the White Sox is really good too!

Or Sherril of the Orioles, we all saw him blow away the NL in the ASG.

  15. Joe Nathan, MIN

    Brain Wilson, SF

  16. Joakim Soria, 4th in saves and never mentioned because he's on a terrible team.

  17. i have one for each league

    AL:Joakim Soria

    NL:Brian Wilson

I think Soria could become a great closer one day in his career and Brian Wilson closer of Giants is great as well but no many ppl know him

  18. Joakim Soria, Joe Nathan, Brian Wilson, Brad Ziegler

  19. Brian Fuentes, Salomon Torres, George Sherril

  20. Jose Valverde and Joe Nathan are underrated. We rarely hear about them and they dont get praised as much as papelbon, k-rod, rivera
