  4. Muhammad Ali - Loved around the world, had inspiring fights, and changed the face of the free world forever,In a time when celebrities were selling soda pop and burgers Ali took a stand even though it cost him 3 years of his prime and millions of dollars but in the end It was all worth it. He also Freed P.O.Ws so he is in actuality a true american HERO.

Mike Tyson - Other then Ali I dont know if there has been any fighter that would be more recognized and known around the world. Plus the fact that ever though he is horribly washed up people still want his name on their record and he can still bring in million of dollars.

Oscar De LaHoya - The Golden boy brought home the gold in the Olympics, made multi millions, even 20 million dollar paydays because his PPV sold so well. He has a top chart Spanish love song album. And again even though his best days are behind him and he is basically a business man he still brings more money then any other fighter out there even though he is not that great.

George Foreman - The original bad boy, he has been hated then loved, he is just as famous and popular for his ventures outside the rig as much as in, he has a world famous popular grill and fought in the famous Rumble in The Jungle with Muhammad Ali. He will forever be linked to the Rope-A-Dope. Hes made appearances on Home Improvment, King of the Hill and a multitude of other tv shows.

Rocky Marciano - even though he is not a heavyweight by todays standards at 5'10 188 lbs and old school basic technique people still say he could beat The Tysons,Lewis and Ali's of the modern era. He is regarded by even the most basic boxing fan as the best fighter of all time.

Sugar Ray Leonard - Considered one of the best boxers of all time, a pretty boy who was a hey day Oscar DeLaHoya. One of the most well liked and successful boxers of all time. His tv show the contender made him even more popular with fight fans who may not have seen him fight.

  5. This is too easy! Here is my list.... In no order....

    1. Muhammad Ali - His charisma and mouth did it.

    2. Oscar De La Hoya - Should I answer???

    3. Mike Tyson - No one was bigger in the 80's and 90's by name

    4. Joe Louis - 1 fight - 1938

    5. Sugar Ray Leonard - 1976 Olympics! America fell in love!

    6. Felix Trinidad - Puerto Rico and latino communities loves this man.

    7. Ricky Hatton - Who falls this man more around from England?

    8. Julio Cesar Chavez - Loved by hardcore mexicans

    9. Manny Pacquiao - One word - Philipinnies

    10. Jack Dempsey - 1920's was his domain.

  6. 1. Muhammed Ali - "the greatest" Everyone even the nonboxing fans know him. He was very charismatic and vocal about things outside the sport and was amazing inside the ring.

    2. Mike Tyson - knock out power - he came at just the right time and with the marketing video game Punch Out increased his popularity. Other than Ali he is probably the most talked about for either good or bad reasons

    3. George Foreman - he would have been just a footnote in boxing history if not for his comeback. He just has one of those great personalities that makes him a household name...(and it helps they see his name on his grill too)

    4. Joe Louis - "The Brown Bomber" he was an American hero as well as one of the greatest champs of all time. Has the most successful defenses of all time. Served his country and also became a legend with his knock out victory over Max Schmeling during the n**i era.

    5. Sugar Ray Robinson - Every fighter recognizes him as the best of all time.

    6. Sugar Ray Leonard - His charisma and epic battles with the best fighters of his era place him as one of the most popular and wel worthy of the "sugar" name.

    7. Oscar De La Hoya - The Golden Boy an Olympic winner and a very articulate businessman. Had great knock out power and though it took a while won over the fans with his humble personality. His popularity  is proven with his amazing PPV numbers every time he fights.

    8. Evander Holyfield - the only 4 time heavyweight champion achieved higher popularity with his decisive wins over Mike Tyson and his longevity.

    9. Marvin Haglar - many argue he is the best middleweight of all time and many still argue about whether he beat Leonard many years ago.

    10. Roberto Duran - When legendary stories are told about feats of strength like punching out a horse and crazy things like that you definitely earned popularity status.

This is a hard list and many more could be up there as well but I think these 10 have such a following and fan base that you can not talk boxing without them. Top 15-20 would have to include heavyweights like Rocky Marziano, Jack Dempsey and others as well as lighter fighters like Willie Pep and Julio Ceaser Chavez but I did my best to keep it to the 10 Most popular.
