  3. Sugar Ray Robinson.  Without question.   Let's examine just two reasons why this is.  First it was Robinson's boxing abilities in two divisions, the welterweight AND  middleweight that gave the boxing world the "pound for pound" rankings, where boxers were compared to one another, regardless of weight.  The victories he attained as an amateur were spectacular.

Second, his career didn't end with his retirement, as he was back in the ring not long after, only THEN did he go on to become the first boxer in history to win a world championship five times.  (divisional, world champ, but this historic event will be one of the greatest he's known for)

With his career spanning over 25 years, he was named Fighter Of The Year twice folks.  (in 1942, then again 9 years later in 1951)

Muhammad Ali, Joe Louis, AND Sugar Ray Leonard have all said Robinson was pound for pound the greatest boxer of all time.  As far as the other 9 on the list of Top Ten, that is up for debate.

Robinson was named the greatest fighter from ESPN, to The Associated Press.

The Ring magazine rated him the best pound for pound boxer of all-time.

  4. Muhammad Ali hits number one easy. Why? Because anyone will tell you he was number one in his day and that was a time when it really meant something to be number one. The guys you get now, if you don't know boxing no one cares. Everyone knew Ali in his day. Everyone.

  5. These lists are pathetic. You guys don't have the first clue about boxing history. Then again, I'm now gonna get low ratings because of my honesty. If you don't know who these guys are, don't comment, just get educated on the history of the sport.
