  1. They are called Marshallers.  They are usually people that work on the ramp.  They also load baggage, assist with boarding, etc.

  2. Ok those guys are called ramp agents, and when they hold the orange cones like the x to stop its for other workers to chuck the plane. Another reason the the pilot need these guys is to bring the plane to a specially marked spot on the ramp so that it won't get hit from passing planes, and that the gate can reach the plane to let out the passengers.

  3. they are called ramp agents, or at some airlines, customer service agents.  When they are marshaling a plane in, they are still called ramp agents.  Some people call them rampies, but that's a slang term.

  4. Ground Handlers.  Once upon a time, before my flying days I did that both for the military (Air Force) and Commercially (Delta Airlines). Different airframes have to stop at different points on the ramp, for the jetway to reach the doors without a whole lot of movement.

  5. They are called aircraft marshaller contrary to some they are mostly mechanics or aircraft technicians who are trained to handle emergencies  like when engine did not shutdown, there is an engine fire or any eventuality while the aircraft is about to park. He must be aware of hand signals  and what to do cause unlike the pilot his vision on the ground is wide.

  6. It really depends on the airline and the size of the operation at that airport.  At larger airports, they are "rampers" or ramp agents, etc..., who handle everything that is not "top side" on the aircraft (such as baggage, lav service, aircraft tows).

At smaller operations where some airline personel due multiple jobs, they could be customer service agents doing the job (those that usually work top side... or ticketing, internal cleaning, etc...).

While they are performing the function... if they are guiding the aircraft in they are called marshallers (sorry for my spelling) and if they are near the wings of the aircraft helping make sure they don't hit anything that are called wing walkers.

    Hope this answers your question.
