There were loads of women soldiers in the 19th century.  it's hard to pick two out. About 400 women fought in the American Civil War for instance. Two of the best-known women soldiers of the American Civil War were Loreta Velasquez, who fought for the Confederataes, and Sarah emma Edmonds, who fought for the Union Army.  Sarah emma Edmonds was granted a military pension in 1884.
