Who becomes Vice President if the original Vice President becomes President?

Also, who takes the Speaker of the House's place if they become President....do they automatically become VP if the original VP becomes President?

  1. The vice-president turned president has the option to choose from the senate and the house of representatives to serve as the vice-president.


  2. No, as in the case of when Nixons first VP resigned, the president chooses another ala Gerald Ford.  If both the president and vice president are killed, then it is the speaker of the house.

  3. If the president resigns or dies,

    the VP becomes President,

    The VP, now president, nominates someone to be the new VP and it is confirmed by the Senate.

    The only way the Speaker of the House becomes president, is if both the President and VP are killed or die at the same time.

    The Speaker, never becomes VP.

    To replace a Speaker, the majority party in the House, would vote on a new Speaker, just like they elected the old Speaker.
