-Personally I feel that oil is of the utmost importance pertaining to the maintenance of a prosperous economy, the rise of employment, and individual financial growth. Not to mention preventing other countries, perhaps with tyrannical or violent intentions, from establishing an oil monopoly in the same region. Oil = Power; when oil, and thus power, is given to terrorist countries, innocent people die.

-But maybe that's just me

-What do you guys think?

  1. I think we need to balance our relations with other countries and assume the role, long abandoned, of being innovators.

We actually are sitting on all the solutions to the energy problem, locked down and inaccessible because of our oil-men run government. If the rest of the world saw us be innovative, and we develop: dry bed geothermal, ocean thermal conversion, tidal power, wind, solar power, pebble bed nuclear reactors and so many other proven sources of energy, we would once again be lieaders... and not on the defensive as we currently are.

In the meantime, we should aggressively pursue conservation and energy efficiency, or we end up just looking arrogant and uncreative.

  2. It would be a better idea to invest in a commodity that is renewable or at least close to never ending. If we all ran electric cars, and the entire country was ran by the latest nuclear power plants

(the newest reactors produce even more extortionate amounts of energy compared to designs 4 or 5 generations ago that we're still using.

I'm not one of those greensters all for solar and wind, it requires far too much land for far too little results and should really only be viable residentially as solar panels can be put on roofs, etc.

Wind turbines are also notorious for killing birds as the windiest areas are generally areas where birds fly through,

If you were truly GREEN a nuclear reactor would kill less wildlife as long as the waste is disposed properly, and it will be!

For urban planning nuclear energy has proven safe, effective, and of little danger to surrounding towns. Only ever once has there been danger of a meltdown in America, which didn't even happen, this was from a power plant built in the mid 1900's as no new nuclear power plants have been built in USA since early 70's, such a shame as the technology has improved vastly)

we might not even need oil.

Compare this to ruining our relationships with muslim nations just to try and get the last sip of the beautiful black gold.

I do love the sound of a nice late 60's combustion engine with a straight pipe however, but if I bought a tesla electric car, I think I would soon get over the sound as I zoom 0-60 in 3 seconds (super car realm).
