  1. I believe neither male nor female should dominate.  To me, it is a cooperative.  Like a big corporation - yeah, the CEO may sound like the dominant figure but he is not.  The board can get rid of him anytime.  The CEO has his purpose distinct from the CFO distinct from the CIO, etc... they all come together with their own skills to run the corporation.  So, really, it is not dominance, but purpose.  Male and Female both have their natural purpose supported by their natural biology and psychology.  Male and Female compliment - not compete.  Just like you would want your accountant to be your CFO and your computer genius to be your CIO... It would be a disaster for the company to hire a person who has a hard time with numbers to be the Chief Financial Officer.  Likewise, it would not be the ideal proposition to make the males the nurturers and the females the muscle.  There's a reason why males have bigger bones and muscle than females.  And there's a reason why females get pregnant and have milk ducts in their b***s.  Neither one can live without the other.  And the species cannot propagate and will face extinction without a piece of both.  So, neither is designed to "dominate" over the other.  History in the main civilized regions of the world has indicated that males "ruled" over women and children.  Note that this is not true all over the world.  In several tribal regions, females rule side by side with the males.  But, males have "dominated" over females in major civilizations in deference to their purpose.  In the olden days when people have a shorter life-span - wars, pestilence, disease, etc. - it is expedient for the species to protect the women.  A woman is the only one that can grow young in their womb.  And it takes 9 months to create the new generation - one at a time (multiple births being the exception).  It only takes one male to impregnate several females to create the next generation.  So, you can send the rest of the males off to get killed and it wouldn't kill off the society.  Now, if you leave only one female - extinction will be close at hand.  Therefore, the natural male psychology has the "protector" nugget ingrained in it.  Thus led to the "dominance" because for a male to protect the female and the young, he has to be able to set up his environment to achieve that purpose.  Granted, they have abused that power for a long time in major civilizations.  And I am happy to see that the female has finally been released from these shackles in modern civilizations.  It is now then the females responsibility not to swing the pendulum too far out to upset the balance once again.  I think it is too late now.  I see more and more the sissification of men!  I was watching a basketball tournament in my neighborhood where one female insisted on being included in the game - protesting - until finally they allowed her in.  Why would a woman want to do that???  These men use basketball to release their energies and testosterone that was built into their biology and psyche given to them to fulfill their role in the propagation of the species.  You put a woman in their midst and their natural instinct is to protect that woman - not steal the ball from her!  To change them so that they will lose that natural protective instinct is detrimental to the society.  And it is sad to see the men hold back on the game and diminish their enjoyment, worse to see them go against their nature and try to bulldoze the woman.  I welcome every man to open the door for me... not because I can't do it myself, but because it is a show of respect.  And I welcome the opportunity to bear children as I have the equipment for it.  But take note, my brain is just as quick as any man's.  And I will fight anybody who infringes on my freedom without my consent!  Modern science and technology have made it so that males and females can make an easy time of it - but it shouldn't be made to change their natures.  Because, the time may come that we have to lose the technology and go back to the time of Moses and then where will we be?

Males and Females are equal.  As they should be.

  2. Male dominance would be nearing an end in Western society...

Theres never going to be an age of womens dominance (not on a global scale)... Physical strength will always see to that.

  3. Terrific question!

First, I don't necessarily believe in "the age of mens dominance" as it may relate to a certain period of time or historical point of reference ... that is, from the beginning, men dominated.  Not because of smarts, intelligence, or any other lofty attribute, but simply because of brawn.

In order for our species to survive, humans were competing against each other as well as the animal kingdom and natural elements to -simply- put food on the table.  That task was mostly accomplished via strength (oh yes, of course, a degree of wit also).

As more people began populating the earth and forms of families, groups and communities spread and became larger, there became a need for order and governance.  Again, the first call of order was strength (if for no other reason than to enfore the rules of order) and men simply met that challenge more readily and easily than women.

Along the way as gender roles and responsibilities became more defined, the tendency to remain within the parameters of those roles became more formidable ... that is, men dominated the social, political, governmental, and military (protective) landscapes, and women tend the familial obligations.  If, for the moment, we remove any notion of "right" or "wrong" or "inequality" or "fairness" to the assessment of this evolutionary process, this makes common sense as well as being psychologically and physiologically sound.

Today, with over forty years of experience from the various "rights movements" (including women's) of the 1960s behind us (America) and most of the western democracies, there is relentless debate -legitimately- regarding the continued positioning of the gender roles.  However, in my view -and my read of the data- truly nothing much has changed.

To give my assumptions some relevance and context, let's know that currently there are about 6.6 billion people on the planet and 304 million of those people (less than 5% of the total) are Americans.

For the sake of my assumption (and so as not to quibble over an insignificant difference), let's agree that one-half of those numbers (world pop and USA pop) are split in half ... that is, there are about 3.3 billion women in the world as well as 3.3 billion men.  And in America, roughly 152 Americans are female.

Now, go about taking a look at the so-called leaders of the world's 195 countries (give or take an island nation here and there)  ... how many countries are led by a woman?  For some very good, eye-opening statistics, take a look at the web site link provided below

Then go out and take a look at the Fortune 500 companies and determine how many are led by women.

Next, take a look at the United States Senate (and the House of Representatives, if you're so inclined), what percentage are female?

And finally, take a look at The One Percent of the world who dominant the control of wealth and capital ... and consider how many of those are female and exactly what percentage of the total wealth do those women control?

The data reveals an extremely bleak picture for anyone who believes there is a movement toward egalitarianism -or even a closing of the gap between men and women.  It's a facade and nothing more than hyperbolic politicking and political correctness.  There is a complete absence of empirical data that indicates -let alone proves- that male dominance is waning while female control is rising.

And, as if we need yet one more statistic to illuminate the truth, consider that in 2008 (on average) a woman makes $0.76 to a man's $1.00

I don't applaud this, agree with it, or even believe it's in the best interests of civilization ... however, it is what it is.

  4. umm..not even close.  have you been in the real workforce lately?  there are more men in high position jobs than women.  One woman ran for president, but at the start there were 20+ men?

  5. ha!  it's still men that control the money
