1. Teaching a religion, maybe. Unless it is in a specifically religious school, in which case, you have to accept that it will be mentioned as part of the school's policy. Either you (if you're a parent) or your parents (if you are a child) should have been aware of that aspect of the school.

In the overwhelming majority of schools, you may be bored by religious talk, but you are not forced to convert.

Teaching about religions, definitely not. Like it or not, religion is a major factor in understanding other peoples and cultures. If you don't know how to avoid accidentally offending someone because of ignorance of their religious beliefs.

In 'Religious Education', I studied Hinduism, Judaism, Buddhism, Sikhism and Christianity at the Christian (formerly Roman Catholic) school I attended. More time was spent talking about ethical issues such as abortion, religious tolerance and the 'ethics' of war than any religion

  2. Governments want to stop this while they themselves have secret cults into magic., free masons etc.

  3. i agree

  4. Keep religion out of private schools, too. Brainwashing has no purpose anywhere.

  5. I agree but at the same time are you sending your child to a public school b/c they aren't allowed to there. If you are sending you're child to a private religious school then that is kind of expected.

  6. im in school in year 8 so i can answer this quite well, you see they only really teach religeon at religeon schools and don't force ou into anything, also when i was in year 7 there was this special religeous education thing (this is a non-religeous school btw) which wasn't compulsory so don't worry about any of this...

  7. i agree 100% if you want your kids to learn religion isn't that what church is for? kids need school to give them an education and teach them skills they can use in the real world.

  8. I never once learned anything about religion in grade school. What gets me is that atheists are complaining about schools wanting to promote critical thinking when it comes to their naturalistic theories instead of simply teaching them as indisputable fact.

  9. They are NOT teaching Religion in Public Schools. (at least not in the USA)

And if "they" are, then those individuals need to be brought to court to defend themselves.

However, it's perfectly reasonable to educate young people ABOUT religions of the world.

  10. It shouldn't be taught in public schools.

  11. so am i

  12. I AGREES

  13. I do believe parents should teach their children about God and His Word and as for the teachings in the school I think it's a poor substitute as they usually get it wrong anyway.

  14. I think world religions should be an option in middle school on. Academically looking at the many religions in the world would be beneficial, especially (in my mind) Islam since there are a lot of misunderstandings thanks to radicals.

  15. As far as I'm concerned I was NEVER taught anything religious in school. I believe in God (but no I don't consider myself a christian) and had to hear about evolution. But guess what? I didn't complain, like so many people do who seem to be stuck up their own butt. All people do is whine. I got over it. You can too. It really isn't THAT hard.

  16. Yea, um, what country are you living in? They don't teach religion in public schools.

We did at least change that.

  17. I'm a Christian and I absolutely do not think Christianity should be taught in public school anymore. The bible and Christian faith should only be taught by Christians. Regardless if the teaching is to believers or non believers. Faith isn't about morals, but I do agree it is my job as a parent to teach both of these things to my 5 children. The job of public schools is to teach children how to read, write, mathematics, and maybe computers or foreign language. It is not however the job of overly opinionated teachers to be pushing their personal views on children. As far as I have personally seen in public school though the only religion being taught as a required part of curriculum is Islam in middle school.

  18. Free speech, yaada yaada yaada.....Freedom to believe, blah blah blah....my usual speech. I'm am atheist and I reckon it is ok. Provided it is optional, and the child chooses. If I ruled the world, that is how it would be, but I don't so, meh.

  19. They should only teach religion so that they will be able to learn about the different cultures in history and modern-day society. They will be able to understand the world better and will be more tolerant of people with different beliefs.

  20. you could have gone about saying this more kindly.

I'm religious, but I also believe it doesn't have a place in school.

If a family, or a person, chooses to be religious, they should take the steps to learn about it on their own. Its not fair that, just because I believe in God, that everyone else should. That just isn't right. Plus it just turns people off to religion altogether. I hope that I kinda changed your opinion on Christians tho. Because many Christians don't think it should be in school, as well.. :):)

  21. I think theres nothing wrong with it.its good for children to have faith in life hope ect thats what religion teaches them wen i was young i prayed and told god all my problems ect and it always made me feel better...

  22. Well, I think that they should present all sides of every theory and let people decide for themselves. I think that if they teach the THEORY of evolution they should also present the theory of creationism.

  23. no not me

if they do not learn the basics on religions in school then it would be much easier for them too be hoodwinked by some out side parents or strangers.

  24. Stop teaching???

They arn't allowed to and never have been.

The seperation of religion and state (education) is a law in the constitution.

  25. I agree with /teaching/ about religions, though not forcing them onto people.

Sucatash- Please look up the scientific definition of "theory". It is not the same as the everyday definition of theory. The Theory of Gravity is most definitely a fact.
