  4. Best is so subjective that what appeals to one person won't necessarily sound great to another person. Also, you are probably going to have a budget that limits your options. I personally own a pair of biamped Martin Logan Monolith IIIs that sound beautiful to me, but I know plenty of people who hate them. If I had the money, I would purchase a pair of Adam Audio Tensor Alphas that retail for $25k/pair and push them with Pass Lab monoblocks...but I also can't afford that right now.

For most consumer level stuff. Paradigm makes some good speakers and Klipsh has some decent stuff at the top of their product line. Above that, I would put some of the B&W speakers, Vandersteens, and Dali. Slightly above that is Martin Logan, Thiel, and Magneplaner. It really all comes down to taste, especially as you go higher up the audio food chain. The difference between loudspeakers becomes less and less, and other things take presidence like the room acoustics, the amplifiers, the source equipment, etc.

If you just want an expensive speaker, look at the German Physiks Gaudi MK IIs that are roughly a million a pair (http://www.german-physiks.com/german-phy... ).
