  1. I do believe it the Army of Rama, it was from India to Lanka

  2. Wherever man lived & there were streams or rivers in his way, he must have searched for ways to enable him to cross over. Any device which enables a man to cross a body of water may be called a "Bridge". The first bridge was perhaps provided by nature herself when a tree would fallacross some stream. Man could easily copy this & started piling up stones in the middle of a stream & laying logs from the pile to the shores. This made a simple beam, or girder, bridge  with one crude pier. But, it was a step to build several of such piers in a broad, shallow stream & connecting them with logs or slabs of stone. When two logs were laid side by side & crosspieces were laid over them as flooring, we got wooden girder bridge. These are built across small streams even today. Stronger girder bridges now have iron & steel beams, & the strongest are built with steel trusses. Many long railroad Viaducts are girder bridges. There are two main parts of a bridge the superstructure, or the span part of the bridge, & the substructure, or the piers & foundations it rests upon. Entire bridge may collapse if the foundations are weak. Therefore, modern engineers generally go down to bedrock for foundation which involves enormous amount of digging. For example, in the case of Eads Bridge over the Mississippi River at St. Louis, Missouri, they had to dig down 40 meters below high water. For the Transbay Bridge between San Francisco & Oakland, they went down to 70 meters below water!
