  1. I don´t know if it was a Mr. Flagler (not sure if I spelled the name right), but for sure he wasvery big in it. See the Miami - Key West extension.

    According to Florida.com, "1834-1837 Florida's first railroads begin operation. The Tallahassee-St. Marks is the first to be incorporated on April 10,1834; however, the b St. Joseph-Lake Wimico line is the first to be in service on April 14, 1836."

    Also, perhaps the state's best known railroad is its very own, the Regional (Class II), Florida East Coast, which is still in operation was incorporated in September of 1895.
