  1. Do you people know any history AT ALL?

The SPANISH mission system was built along the coast of California to service the yearly Manila Galleon that hauled treasure from the Philippines to the Mexican west coast... and to watch the shores for incursions by foreign governments... and to settle the West Coast...

The missions were established by the Franciscans because the Jesuits had been thrown out of the New World after they attempted to assassinate the Pope and take over the Catholic church.  The Franciscans had the franchise for all of the Spanish southwest, which is why there are old missions in TEXAS, NEW MEXICO, ARIZONA and COLORADO just to name a few states that are inland.

One of the main trails from Santa Fe to the West Coast is the Escalente trail and this was the preferred route for Missionaries, traders  and Miners for a couple of hundred years.  I've actually been over about half of it and it's extremely easy to navigate... easier than the modern road system.

  2. All of the California Missions were built by Catholic priests from Spain

Of course, they also wiped out the native population, but that's another story....
