Question:

Who can I contact to rescue several hundred tadpoles I found in flooded tire tracks in Canton, MI?

The tadpoles I found are in a "semi-wild" area in Canton Township, Michigan and need to be rescued. I myself am severely challenged and can't do the rescue myself. I have tried to find animal rescue groups in the area, but had no luck yet. The tadpoles are living in flooded tiretracks near Palmer Road in Michigan at the ITC power lines facility. I am afraid that the little guys are going to be run over by more trucks or the tracks will dry out. I could try rescuing them myself, but am afraid that I will botch it. With frogs and other amphibians occurring in the news as endangered, I care deeply for these helpless little guys. Anybody out there want to help me rescue them? Again, they are growing near the roadside off of Palmer Road and I would say that they are in imminent danger. Please help. I'm also thinking of contacting a local school to see if they can make this into a student project, but the weekend is here.

  1. you've got to be kidding me.  you care deeply for a swarm of itty bitty not quite frogs?  ugh, you feel too much.  go rescue a homeless guy or a crack addicts kid. quit wasting your time on frogs.

  2. The school thing or childrens project sounds like the best option.

  3. I'm not trying to be mean or say hurtful things, but sometimes it's best for nature to take it's course.  If these little guys are meant to survive, they'll make it to their frog stage.  It takes about 6 weeks, I think, for tadpoles to turn into frogs, if the weather is warm.  And there's no telling how long they've already been alive, so they'll probably be getting their legs and losing their tails before long.

Another thing to remember... if you have them rescued, and the rescuer puts them into a lake, pond, or creek... there's a big chance that the larger fish will eat them.

  4. Sounds like a job for the Coast Guard.  I'm certain there is some agency that is just dying to spend $100,000 to rescue a bunch a baby frogs.  Last I heard the frog population in Michigan had plummeted to primordial days just after the great dinosaur die off.

FEMA, USCG, National Guard, fire & police, for these agencies It would be a great break from wasting so much time and money trying to save those people near the Mississippi River.

You rescue them.  Scoop them into a coffee can and then flush them down your toilet.  Take the bull by the horns and save these useless little slugs.
