Who can I turn on picture in picture between my PS3 and the usual TV input?

I have a one-year-old Samsung plasma TV that "supports" picture in picture. I use the HDMI input for my PS3 and the usual "Exit"-input for my receiver. And despite they're both turned on at the same time, I cannot activate PiP. In the TV menu it is displayed gray, non-selectable.

You cannot use pip while playing PS3.
