Genealogy Search Albert Warren Austin, Jr. born in Texas, died in California?

Albert Warren Austin, Jr. from Texas married Pearl Ames Bolt from Kansas. Albert's progenitors were Moses Austin and Stephen F. Austin grandfather and father of Texas respectively, founder of Austin, Texas. The original Austin, "Hobgobblin" Austin was from England who "killed" a ghost who was terrorizing the townspeople and ran away from prosecution. Down the lineage, seven Austin brothers sailed across the sea alternately sitting on their collective chest of gold and treasures to protect it. Albert and Pearl Austin moved to Arizona and had a daughter, Lura (who married Watkins Briscoe) and Melvin Bennett Austin, my father. Albert and Lura died from Leukemia, Lura in Arizona and Albert in Los Angeles. Pearl died from a stroke in Los Angeles. Melvin died in Ventura County, CA from Alzheimer's. Albert and Pearl owned and operated a lunch cafe in Tucson, AZ across the street from a Junior High School. Brent Ames Austin (me) worked in electronics and engineering Aerospace Industries.

If I was giving advice, I'd suggest you go to a Mormon Church's Family History Center. They have free census image access. See if you can find Albert W. (Sr) in 1870, 1860 and 1850. Judging by the age of Charles, th eoldest son in the household in 1880, he was in Texas by 1855. He may have been there before then. He may have met his wife there, or he may have stopped in Missouri on his way from Virginia and met her then.

You have two cousins there. Use a birth year of 1826 (Exact) and a birth place of "VA".

  2. I was able to verify that your genealogy is indeed correct back to Albert Warren Austin, Jr.

I verified your fathers parents from his birth certificate which I was able to find online and they are listed as  Albert Austin and Pearl Bolt.  I was able to confirm his parents death dates using the California death index and was able to confirm the death of  your fathers sister,  Lura in the Arizona death certificates.  Your research back to Albert Warren Austin, Jr is very sound.

Here is a link to a picture of his tombstone

With Albert Warren Austin, Jr , you can pretty much assume that his father was Albert Warren Austin, Sr.  Ted found you the correct 1880 census information for this family.  From the California Death Index, we learned that Jr's mother had the maiden name Wilson, so you now have the name of Albert Warren Austin, Jr.s parents.

Census Place Precinct 3, Frio, Texas

From the 1870 United States Federal Census: He and the family were living in Collin County, Texas. There are 7 children listed; Charles age 15, Comogmia age 12, Aleppo age 11, Laura age 9, Zorah age 5, Shelton age 3, and Lindsay age 1.  Albert is listed as 44 years old and is a farm laborer with $900 of personal estate and no real estate listed. Martha is listed as 35 years old.

From the 1860 United States Federal Census: He and the family were living in Fannin County, Texas. It shows 3 children, Charles age 5, Coma age 3, and an Infant age 1.  A. W. is listed as 33 years old and is a carriage maker with $3000 value of real estate, and a personal estate of $400.

A.W. Austin, Sr and wife Martha are in the same cemetery as son A. W. Austin, Jr.  Here are the links to their tombstone:

There are other Austin members in the same cemetery.

Now, who is Albert Warren Austins Sr.'s  father? I was searching online and found a family tree that suggests that his father was David Shelton Austin and  Polly Lowrey.   David was born about 1790 in Louisa County, Virginia.  Keep in mind that Stephen Fuller Austin was born in Wythe County Virginia on November 3, 1793, so if this information in this tree is correct, your progenitors cannot be Stephen F Austin and Moses Austin, even thought they are both from Virginia.   Here is a link to the tree.  It looks pretty well researched, however, without seeing their sources it is open to scrutiny.

I would recommend contacting the trees author, Larry whose E-mail address is at the top of the page.
