  1. This is so wierd---I just had a guarantor sign the passport application tonight for my son.  According to the paper I am holding  the guarantor:

    1.  must be some one other than the applicant who can identify the person

    2.  be a Canadian citizen 18 years of age or older

    3.  must hold a valid 5 year Canadian passport

    4.  must have been 16 years of age or older when they received the passport

    5.  must have known the applicant personally for at least 2 years

    6.  must be able to provide all the information requested in the guarantor section of the application

    7.  must be accessible to Passport Canada for verification

    8.  must sign the back of one of the applicant's photo's saying "this is a true likeness of _______________"

I had a friend of our family be the guarantor for my son.  She has know him since birth and met all the criteria.

You used to have to get a professional (lawyer, doctor etc..) to be your guarantor but they have changed that in the last year or so.

  2. A guarantor is anybody who is financially stable to support an entrant.
