  1. I'm not sure why the programmer would have to live in Vegas.

But in any case, you are wasting your time.  People assume that bots can make a fortune, but if that were true, why are they sold on the Internet?  If a programmer made a working bot that could earn him a fortune, why risk detection by allowing multiple people to use it?  Surely the sales price would not outweigh the money he could make for it himself?

But let's say you had one.  The problem with poker is the massive unknown element in the game.  Is the other person bluffing?  It's not like chess where you can calculate every possible move.  Poker requires instinct and knowledge of what an opponent is doing.  It would take a very powerful computer with some amazing programming to really do well consistently at poker.

The concept of just logging in and leaving a bot to play on Poker Stars for hours is pretty scary.  Unlike you a computer doesn't care if it loses all your money.  It's just running a program.  So you could come back and find all your money gone.  Alternatively since bots are illegal on poker sites, the site could detect your bot and instantly freeze your account.  They may even refuse to give your money back to you.  They have pretty sophisticated methods of detecting bots, and don't appreciate people using them.

So in the worst case the bot loses, or the site bans you for cheating.  And as for the best case, I just have a hard time believing that a bot is going to earn you any significant amount of money before you get caught.
