The other day i was serving in a doubles tennis match and my partner called a let, however the other team announced that it was illegal for us to call the let. Is it illegal for the server or his partner to call a let in a tennis match?

  1. it's the recievers' end call for sure.........i dont see why ur partner cant call it but im really not sure

    i wouldnt've bitched about it

  2. Any player on the court can call a let.

If it's an officiated match, only the chair umpire or a let person, if there is one, can call a let.

  3. anyone on the court can call a let, it doesn't matter if you are the server or the returner, you can call a let on a serve.  Your opponents were wrong and I hope you beat them, for being idiots..

  4. Its the chair umpire.

  5. Few people know this, but any player (in singles or doubles) can call a service let (ball touching the net).

It must be done promptly.  Usually the receiver's make the call and many players on the serving side decide not to get involved with the call thinking maybe they were mistaken.

If the server hears a clear let and the receiver does not call it, it is best for the server to call it ASAP.  Otherwise, the server hears a let and the receiver hits a winner, and after some hesitation, the server asks, "Did you hear a let?"  That is always difficult situation to resolve after the point has been played.
